Re: A&P Sling proceedure Repair and Suburethral Sling on Nov 16th
I had rectocele repair and suburethral sling six weeks ago, and I'm so glad I did. I was scared, too, partly because I'd never had any kind of surgery or anesthesia before, and partly because I was afraid I'd end up with more problems than I started with. It all went fine, and I'm dry and feel so much better than I have in a long time. I even started back exercising this week, and that was great. I feel like I'm completely healed, although I'm still not doing anything too strenuous. My doctor said no lifting over 10 pounds for six weeks, and no hard housework like vacuuming or mowing, and I did what she said. You only get one chance to heal well, so do what your doctor says! It's only for a short time, and will be over pretty quickly.
A few things which helped - I told the anesthesiologist I was really worried about being sick after the surgery (that was one of my biggest fears). He assured me that he would take care of it, and he did, so be sure to let them know if that might be a problem for you. Also, I started taking stool softeners before my surgery, and I'm glad I did that. Check with your doctor, but you might want to consider that. Mine also recommended Miralax after the surgery, and that helped a lot. Try to have someone at home who will do everything for you (bring you food, etc.) the first couple days. I really didn't want to get out of my chair those days, but after that I could get around more. I could get up and go to the bathroom and take a shower and things like that, but I'm glad I didn't have to make any meals, etc.
Good luck to you! It helps to remember that doctors all over the world do these procedures every day, and you don't see too many people posting about problems. The problems you see are pretty scary, but they are a small percentage of the total surgeries. Be sure to ask your doctor ALL of the questions you have and you will (maybe) be less scared about it. It will be worth it after it's done.

Dolfynlover, I had the TOT sling in Dec '08 and I'm happy I did. It took me a little longer than I expected to heal. I started having regrets then I was better and wow, was I ever pleased with the results.
Looks like we are having surgery on the same day 11/16. You'll be fine, just take it easy and give yourself time to heal afterwards.
With your hyst, did you remove ovaries and cervix as well?
Many (((hugs))) and blessings

Re: A&P Sling proceedure Repair and Suburethral Sling on Nov 16th
I just had those procedures along with a TLH a week ago today. So far I'm doing great and have had minimal pain. I just take ibuprofen for soreness. I was able to urinate without problem after the catheter was removed the morning after surgery. I can't tell any difference with urination at all except I don't leak anymore.
My best advice is to find the very best urologist surgeon that you can. He make sure that s/he has performed hundreds of sling surgeries. That will insure the best outcome.
I was going to have all of the procedures done by my OBGYN until I started reading this site which encouraged me to get a 2nd opinion. I found a gynecologist who is a nationally recognized laprascopic specialist. She referred me to an excellent urologist. The two of them have done thousands of surgeries and did all of my procedures under the one anesthesia. Make sure that you feel 100% confident in your surgeon and remember, it's never too late to get a 2nd opinion.
There are lots of success stories out there! Best wishes to you!

Re: A&P Sling proceedure Repair and Suburethral Sling on Nov 16th
Good Morning! I had A & P Repair w/ monarc sling Sept 7th 2010 and I'm doing great! I'm off light duty at work and feel sooooo much better. Admittedly the first couple of days are the worst of the healing process but after that first week, things were uphill for me! The biggest caution I can give is follow your Dr.'s advice TO THE LETTER! NO lifting, NO straining! let all that work heal before you even think about returning to your normal daily stuff. The other thing I looked into was "proper lifting" techniques. You can, and probably will, undo the repairs if you don't lift properly from that point on. I found out I was NOT lifting properly at all through my research. I thought I was......but nope! *L* I talked to my Dr. and he signed me up to some classes that showed me how to do it correctly. I can feel the difference now even when lifting smaller items. Good luck to you! There are success stories out there! I'm one of them!

Re: A&P Sling proceedure Repair and Suburethral Sling on Nov 16th
I had cystocele repair and da vinci hysterectomy on 10/25 and I'm doing well 11 days after. I mean I'm still home and taking it very easy but I'm glad I did it. My advice to you would be find yourself a Urogynecologist! I did and it was the best thing I ever did. These doctors deal in gynecology and urology - it's a new specialty. They deal mostly with these prolapse issues. I also was going to just go along with my OBGYN until my GP mentioned this specialty - bless her!
I had a patch behind my ear during surgery to stop the nausea and it worked. The doctor had ordered it.

Re: A&P Sling proceedure Repair and Suburethral Sling on Nov 16th
I did have a total abdominal hysterectomy in June of 2009. They took everything. The things that worry me most is that I have fibromyalgia, possible MS, IBS, Chronic Headaches and Chronic fatigue syndrome. I am basically a wreck. I am only 37 years old but I feel like I am 60. I hurt all the time, I have a very hard time as it is regulating my bowels and am scared that I will not be able to after surgery.
I do think I have a good urologist to do the surgery. I did get a 2nd opinion with a urogyno and she recommends the same things. She is amazing but can not do surgery till Feb. she does know the uro that is going to do surgery and says that I will be fine and that the uro is very good. So that did ease my concerns somewhat!
Thank you all for your replies! I just hope to finally get some relief from all the constant abdo pain and pressure that I have but they have warned me that this may not fix all that but I will not have anymore leaking and that will be a major plus to me!

Re: A&P Sling proceedure Repair and Suburethral Sling on Nov 16th
I had TVH and A&P repair with monarc sling, I feel great!! I had minimal pain after surgery and immediate improvement with my bladder issues. I was afraid of the rectocele repair, but take the stool softeners I starter 1 week before surgery, it helps. I am so grateful!! It's nice to be dry and comfortable, I was not able to fully empty my bladder for years, now I can lay down and go to sleep without worry. Do follow the Dr.'s orders to the letter, you want this wonderful surgery repair to heal right!

Dolfynlover, you want to research the product that your surgeon will be using. I had the Monarc (so far it is working, although I haven't been released yet, so can't tell you experience in the intimacey dept) and doesn't have the bad reputation that others do. I am glad that a friend who is dealing with a bad recovery informed me to go online and research epinions, and opinions, posts on the internet. I checked the brand my Uro was recommending, and was comfortable with my decision. Take care and go easy
