pelvic pain 6 months post hysterectomy, why?
I'm still having pelvic pains at 6 mo post op. Recovery was complicated by cuff cellulitis, had 3 months off work. Several checks for UTI no bladder infection, negative CT at 6 weeks. At 3 months Dr said all was totally healed in vagina. But I'm still in pain. Burning most of time, sharp sometimes, worse after activity and at end of the work week.
Anyone else experienced this? What did Dr find was cause?

Read some of the threads on pelvic floor dysfunction. Your pain could be muscular at this stage post op.

Re: pelvic pain 6 months post hysterectomy, why?
I went through 6 months plus wondering what was wrong. I kept thinking that I should not feel this pelvic pain this far after surgery. I paid too much attention to those who told of how they were back to normal after 3 weeks. (everyone's normal is different). I also complained to my gyn-onc, my general internist, and my closest friend. I was told by all of them that I was just in need of more time. How frustrating this was! (but it turned out to be so true).
At this point, I am a few days shy of 1 year and can say that I was just impatient with myself. I still had pelvic pain with heavy lifting up to about 8-10 months. The good news is that, even though it took so long, the discomfort and pain did subside.
I still can't lift my 35 pound 3 year old niece without some minor pelvic twinges, but I think that is just weak pelvic muscles. (or my umbilical hernia I found out I had) I am thankful that I am one year out and have no recurrence of cancer. I was looking forward to the day that my first thought in the morning was not about my pelvic discomfort. That day did arrive!
I had a hard time hearing it myself, but I will still say it to you. I know you will get to that point. It can take up to a year to really get "on with it". The nerves take a long time to heal and can cause burning and painful twinges. As I read about everyone's problems I was sure I must have them too. BUT, my issue was slow healing and needing more time. We don't all get over this major surgery in 3 weeks.
I hope you get to those better days soon and your circumstance is taken care of with a little more time.
Hang in.

Re: pelvic pain 6 months post hysterectomy, why?
Thanks for keeping in touch
Pain persists, little milder but by Thursday each week it's worsening, and I'm still battling Hyster fatigue too.
Had PT eval, she advised stop yoga, just gentle walking! Ha! im RN - on my feet all day 5 days week!
So now waiting for ins to approve treatment. Hoping that will come this week, pray I won't have to wait long to get appointments ...

Thanks for encouragement
I too hopeful this will improve with time but so far it really hasn't after 7 months. I have very active job as RN and do yoga, well I used to, twice a week so went in with very fit pelvic floor and resuming yoga just made it worse.
So Gyn and PT feel muscle spasm and inappropriate nerve firing causing pain need to retrain nerves and release those deep muscles.
We shall see.... And I will let you know via this thread.
Thank you so much
