How to make myself actually show up for the op!!

Hoo Boy, do I relate! I am already on Wellbutrin for anxiety and depression and I was really drove up about the surgery. I had a 2 week heads up for the surgery and knew I needed to take my mind off of it. So, I redid our bedroom. Thinking I was going to spend a lot of time in there afterwards and it needed to be done anyway, I repainted, rearranged furniture, hung pictures and put on new bedding the day up until the bowl prep day. Really helped to have a project just to get to the day before.

Then the morning of the surgery, plus I had talked to the staff and dr beforehand so it was in the notes, when the anethesioligist SP? came in I told him I was extremely anxious and nervous. Could have used a pill or something in the elevator actually. On the verge of tears and shaking when I reminded him of my situation, he gave me something that calmed me down immediately. Don't know what it was, but it worked. Probably Versed, the "forget everything drug." I also told him that I didn't want to see any instruments, or the operating room... anything at all to do with the surgery. He made sure that happened and I just remember waking up in my room afterward with my DH there watching me.

Please ask them to help you. Make sure they understand fully how panicked you are and they will help you get there, stay there and get through. How wonderful it will be for you afterwards to have your "soccerball" gone! Keep focused on that. Many prayers to you and drop in for support here with your sisters.
