Re: How long did you wait to clean your house after surgery?

It should be at least 6 weeks until you can do the heaver housework. I was not released to lift more than a milk gallon until week 8. Vacuuming is the worst because you don't want to twist inside. Even if your son & BF don't do it to your liking I would just leave it be. You don't want to cause adhesions & have more problems down the road. It is just not worth it. Maybe make them lists since males do better with instructions. My hubby did a fine job of taking care of everything & it was not that bad. The cleaning will still be there when you are healed. You only have one chance to heal correctly. Please take it easy.

Re: How long did you wait to clean your house after surgery?

see you got something I dont have, we have no click and go shopping here. I think there is a program somewhere that would do my shopping but I have always wanted to grocery shop online, I spend to much walking down the isles, also it is so hard on me physically.
I would change your sheets if I could, my friend might like a nice vacation, if you live somewhere awesome lol

Sadly no, I just live in boring Northern Colorado...Maybe i will put 5-6 fitted sheets on the bed and I can just rip one off every few days .
I do make a list for my son, as he is never on task without anything in writing.
I will write everything down & just pray it gets done, even if it is half azzed
Too bad the boxers cant help out, they are more loyal then anyone to me =)

Re: How long did you wait to clean your house after surgery?

When I was discharged from the hospital, I was given strict instructions to do no houswork for 2 weeks. I did do some dusting and straightening but nothing strenuous.

It's 6 weeks now and, honestly, if I do too much, I pay for it with soreness. You just have to listen carefully to your body and your doctor.

I think your boyfriend and son need to understand that you can't do certain things and should give you the help you will deserve!

Best wishes.

Re: How long did you wait to clean your house after surgery?

Oh, i can only hope so!! It isnt my sons fault. He vacuums and does dishes anyways, I just have to write it on his chore calendar. I even showed him how to wash his school uniforms, hopefully he will remember.
The bf...not counting on much. Sadly, I dont come first in his priorities. I asked him to go to pre-op today so he could hear first hand from doc about do's & don't...he wouldnt get up from bed, kept sleeping. I know, it is a lot of WHINE out of me.

Re: How long did you wait to clean your house after surgery?

Dear bluntcat

do not be in a hurry for house work, I am now 3 months post opp and still get tired and with some stinging in my incision

here is what the doctor told me, no driving before six weeks no bending or lifting before 2 months and after that take it easy , you will still be on your first period of recovery

my advice to you is to do as I did , i precooked for 2 or three weeks , and put them in the deep freaser and I had my maid come twice a week for house cleaning, and the kids are to lift the laundry daily and I stayed in bed for the first 6 weeks only walking around easily and been driven with car to go any where . my kids and hubby gets the package out of the freaser daily in the morning and use the microwave to heat it and some salad , and here is lunch and dinner,
and during the first six weeks I did not drive the car, I had to be taken to my exams by one of my friends, and my son was assigned driver for me whenever I needed him,
now I am 3 months post opp and still get tired quickly and my incision stings if any hard work or bending is done , so please pamper yourself for a while you still have the rest of your life to work through it , and nothing will happen if things are not as perfect as they should be
believe me after a while you will be as good as new and you will do lots of work, so enjoy being helped and enjoy doing nothing for a while , then first thing you do after 2 weeks when you can go out for the nearest shop, go buy a new lipstick and may be have a nice new hair cut and enjoyyyyyyyyyyy

Re: How long did you wait to clean your house after surgery?

ssh, I'm still not cleaning the house, but I'm sure I could! Just don't tell my DH that! LOL

Actually, I do a little bit like hand wash some of the smaller dishes or clean the counter tops, but that's it for me. My DH has never trusted me to do the grocery shopping (I go off the list!), so he does that. And, he won't let me carry the laundry basket. He's been a dear, but soon I'll be doing my share again.......

I do clean daily & I will just freak out if I see the sink full of dishes or a dirty toilet. I am thinking my 10 yr old can deal with it for maybe 3 days...bf, yeah right, 3 min.
You mean, we can return to housecleaning after surgery?

OK, that was in jest -- sort of.

Quite honestly, the house could have fallen down around me for the first three weeks... I wouldn't have noticed a thing. I was in pain, tired, and moving too slowly to even care whether dishes were being done or not.

I like your idea of paper plates, cups and utensils.

In all seriousness, though -- your bf and your ds may surprise you. Heck, I didn't even know my husband could light the burners on our gas cooktop, and all of the sudden he had dinner cooked one night! No, it wasn't gourmet fare, but then, as I said before, I was in no condition to either be picky or to even care what I was being fed at that point.

If you really want them to do serious cleaning during your recovery time, I'd take the time to talk to them. I'm not talking about anything like "laying down the law", but just a heartfelt, "I really am going to need some help at first" kind of discussion. Let them know that you really won't be able to do much at all at first, and that even when you do get better, you can only take on the duties gradually.

As for hiring a cleaning service... do you maybe have someone nearby who could just come in for an hour or two a couple of times a week? Maybe just to clean bathrooms and a bit of ?? You could trade for some other service down the road if cash is short. Just a thought.

I saw it here more than once, though -- so I'm going to repeat it: The things that need to get done will get done, and even if they don't get done perfectly or exactly when you want them done, it will still be OK. It really will.

Re: How long did you wait to clean your house after surgery?

I want to know too! I keep trying, telling myself I'll just do light house work. Well, there's no such thing in my book. It's all or nothing. The ten pound weight limit still applies in week three so I try and keep that in mind, can't wait to see what's on the "can do" list for the next few weeks.
