surgery soon/ real sick

I am scheduled for this coming wed for tvh and now I have the flu. It's a real bad case and has me on my back. I am getting pretty depressed and am fearful that they wont do the surgery becasue it wont be gone in time. YIKES I have waited 2 years to get this done. Any thoughts?

Try not to worry to much....that could make you sicker!

I was told by my doctor and the nurses at my hospital that unless you have a relatively high temperature and you are very congested, they usually go ahead with the surgery.

You have five days to work on getting yourself better. Try to drink LOTS of fluids (juice, soup, water) and get lots of rest. Try to sweat out the bug by covering yourself with blankets (but don't it you do have a high temperature).

Call your doctor if you are not feeling substantially better by Monday. Get his advice.

You should be able to beat this bug before Wednesday. Think positive!

Best of luck.

This close to surgery DO NOT SELF MEDICATE! If you haven't already done so CALL YOUR SURGEON ASAP! There are meds they can give you to lessen the duration and severity of the flu but need to be administered very soon after the appearance of the symptoms.

Although postponement is very difficult, it's much better to be safe rather than sorry. The flu can be serious enough on its own.

Please remember that anything you take now can have an impact on your surgery and recovery.
