Exhaustion has set in...
I'm exhausted, I'm in horrible pain and I can't get to sleep. I have so much left to do before next wed I just don't know if I can last that long anymore. Even my DH commented tonight that one minute I looked like I was okay and then the next I looked like I felt aweful. Can anyone give any ideas on how I can relax otherwise I'm going to be a blithering pile of mush come 5/25
Thank for the hundreds of listening ears to turn to!

Exhaustion has set in...
I haven't had my HYST yet but I did have abdominal surgery last summer.
What helped me was taking extra vitamins (like Centrum Silver that is low in vitamin E) for the 2 weeks before (ask your doctor and see what s/he thinks);
I also was concerned with getting all the little things I thought I would need for afterwards (see the pre-op checklists for suggestions). I even went out nearly every day when I thought of something else or read from someone else that it might help; {like a grabber tool, lemons for swelling, etc.} The act of going out helped distract me.
One of the best things I did for myself was to get up when I couldn't sleep and go running VERY early in the morning as much as I was able. Exercise that raises your heart rate (providing you don't have any medical contraindications) is a very good way to keep from being depressed.
I dont know how you feel about it, but the anesthesia was what scared me the most. I felt much better about the safety of it all when I read from someone that you have a much better chance of dying in a car accident on the way to the surgery than you do from the anesthesia or surgery itself!
Sending {{{hugs}}} and good wishes for you.................

First of all, take a deep breath and calm down. I think we all tend to get all worked up thinking that we have to get sooo many things done before surgery...when in fact we sometimes over do it. Believe me, if you don't get it all done the world won't fall apart and your family will manage. So don't fret over the things that you are too tired to accomplish. Just make a list based on the priority of things that you need to do and get the most important accomplished first. If you can't finish the list before surgery, it will be alright. My family managed and I'm sure yours will too. Goodluck with your surgery...the waiting IS the hardest part.

Exhaustion has set in...
If it's any consolation, I found myself in the same boat you're in -- exhausted, in pain, and only about 1/10th of my list of stuff done that I wanted to get done before surgery.
Here's what I did -- I eliminated about 90% of what was remaining on my list. No need to have the house spic-n-span before I leave -- really, there isn't. Don't have to have enough food to last 3 weeks in the house. (DH knows the phone number of the pizza place and McDonalds is just a little ways away.) Cleaning out the flower pots for the fall (my surgery was in Sept.) became a low priority.....and you know what? They're still waiting for me (now I'll just clean them out when I plant this year's flowers this weekend) and everything was OK.
Once I realized I could only get done a certain number of things, I calmed down immediately. Those things that needed to get done, got done -- the rest either got done later or didn't get done. And I was OK with that.
Let go of the worry and remember things don't need to be perfect! Oh, and if you come over to my house, please don't check out the lampshades. They may just be a little dusty.

I agree with the other sisters. Sit down and revise your list. My surgery was a rush job, so the waiting for me was easy, as I didnt have only 2 days to wait, but I felt I needed to clean and organize the world in those 2 days- It did not happen, I had many phone calls to take, and many visitors to talk to, and my time was spent in that manner. The family did fine, and so did I. I had lots of time post-op, to get a few things on the list accomplished, but I didnt even start working on the pre-op list until about 9 weeks post-op.
Relax, and do something for yourself, get a good book to read, do some hobbies or crafts, and quit worrying(I know, easier said than done).
Many healing hugs are coming your way!!!!!

Thank you all so much for your kind words and prayers. I'm doing my best to remain calm and remind myself to take deep breaths. Today was better. I know everything will be fine and what gets done gets done the rest isn't going anywhere!! Thanks again.
