Pre-op today

Hi, everyone. Had my pre-op today. I have fibroid tumors, painful and heavy periods, and alot of pain in my left ovary. Sometimes the pain is continuous, even when not on my period. After the trans vaginal ultrasound the dr said my ovary looked fine, but that the uterous needed to come out. She acted today like it was a surprise when I told her I wanted my uterous and both ovaries out. I mean, sometimes my other ovary causes discomfort too, just not as often. My question is, "Do you think I'm wrong to request both ovaries?" I have researched HRT. Is there something else I should know?
Please help if you can. Surgery date: 11/24

Pre-op today

Hi! I had the LAVH 3/28/03. I'm feeling great--have not had a single GYN type complaint since! What a relief after years of having my life dominated by horrible periods!

I had adeno, fibroids, and an enlarged uterus. I had previously had endo lasered out--actually 9 yrs. ago and much to my surprise the doctor said she didn't see any more when she went in there.

I kept my ovaries and will have natural menopause whenever (my luck I'll be 55). The pains I have experienced on the sides by the hips seem to be gone. I was wondering if possibly they were due to my 12-14 week size enlarged uterus--due to adenomyocis.

It's hard to say whether or not you should or should not keep the ovaries. One reason I wanted the LAVH instead of the TVH is I wanted to know the doctor had looked at the ovaries. They appeared healthy so I kept 'em. Sometimes you have to follow your gut! After you get your doctor's opinion of course.

Good luck with your surgery!

I would definately discuss this thoroughly with your dr. Then together you can make the best decision for you. My own inclination would be to keep any healthy ovaries ( unless the dr knows of a reason not to ).

Best wishes.
