Goodwill Store for Nightgowns

Don't know if any of you have a Goodwill Store around you but they are great
for buying nightgowns. Found some oversize t-shirt nightgowns for $2.00. I don't
have to worry about getting anything on them.
Got my call from the hospital yesterday. All set for pre-registration. Private Room is
supposed to be set-up for me. (Thanks for all the anwers from my Post!) Tomorrow
is my "date" with the Surgical Nurse.

I've been taking Bayer Extra Strength (3 at a time) for pain, or Vicodin. I quite the
Bayer because I'm worried about bleeding during Surgery. Is this correct?

August 28th Date

Hi Katie...I, too, become a princess on August 28th. Good advice about the nightgowns. I will give it a try as there is a Goodwill just blocks from my house. I have this crazy notion that I will be in my shorts and t-shirts the day I get home from the hospital, but guess I should give that up!! I am new to this forum, so am unfamiliar witht he abbreviations. What are you having done? Mine is a TAH with ovaries removed.

Casandra,

I'm having a LAVH-LSO (left ovary) done. The right ovary was removed last September
because of an Ovarian Cyst larger than a tennis ball. At that time they wouldn't
remove everything else. So now here I am 11 months later back in the Castle.

Here's a to my twin! Are you getting nervous too?

Katie,

Thanks for the nightgown idea....

Yes, generally, you're supposed to stop taking aspirin and aspirin-containing products at least a week before surgery, because they thin the blood and can cause excessive and heavy bleeding during surgery.

But please talk to your doctor and, if at all possible, an anesthesiologist about medications and surgery ... about other things you are taking, like the Vicodin. Every doctor is different and has different ideas about what you should and shouldn't be taking.... For various reasons.

It's a very important conversation that everyone should have pre-surgery.

Sometimes something seems harmless, but might actually be dangerous when mixed with the type of anesthesia they're planning on using, or with post-op pain medication.

I'm glad to hear that you're going to get the private room. Most of the time, it really is worth the extra money, to have the privacy.

Take care of yourself... I look forward to seeing you on the post-op board.

Goodwill Store for Nightgowns

the goodwill store is a treasure trove of other goodies as well!

in preparation for my oct.4 TVH, i visit the thrift shops and buy lots of books that look interesting. they're cheap and plentiful and will be a welcome diversion while i'm recovering. i also found a pretty new set of linens for my bed and other decorations to give my bedroom a new look. also, i have been stockpiling inexpensive novel toys for my dd's (age 6 & 8) to play with while i am unable to be very active with them.

best wishes for an uncomplicated surgery and speedy recovery!
