Anyone have a c-section/hysterectomy

I eneded up having an emergency hysterectomy 3 weeks ago during a c-section. Anyone else go through this? I am havinga hard time recovering. I don't know if its due to the 2 surgeries together or what. The hysterectomy was such a shock. When I went under for the c-section I didn't know they were gonna have to do it so when I woke up and they told me I was shocked.

Anyone have a c-section/hysterectomy

So sorry that you were not able to prepare for such a life changing event. I hope someone can come along with an answer for you. I had a C Section but it was 17 yrs ago, and I was 17. So I think I bounced back pretty quick. Do you know if they did a complete hysterectomy?

Gosh, what a thing to be told when you are waking up.

I had three C-Sections, never knocked out for them. Were you high risk?

I had the abdominal hysterectomy at age 46, and was done with having children.
They did put me out for that.

My surgeries were quickly bounced back from, I was up and about right away. I went back to work from the hysterectomy within 3 weeks.

Hope you are healing okay now!

c-section/hyst.

Oh, I am so very sorry to hear about that.

I did have a c-section and a hyst. (SAH), but I knew that I was going to have a hyst. I had severe pain that was due to endo and fibroids and just couldn't take it anymore.

I then ruptured and was back in emergency surgery a few hours later.

VERY HARD!!! I feel for you and hope you are doing ok...

Keep on this site, it will help you and you will find someone that has had that exact thing happen. It might just take a little while.

Please take care of yourself.

they said they only took the uterus. they said they left both ovaries. I am assuming they left cervix but I am unsure.

wow, 3 weeks thats awesome. I will be 4 weeks post op and if I do more than take care of the baby I am in alot of pain. I am hoping to go back to work by 6 weeks.

I was high risk. I had a complete placenta previa. They told me their was a very small risk of hysterectomy but thats all they said so I didn't really think much of it. I guess when they opened me up it was alot worse. Luckily they were prepared so I only needed 3 units of blood. I am liking the no period thing, lol. I am trying to think of the positives.

Positives since no uterus

1) no periods
2) no cramping
3) no more -"uggh, was NOT expecting that today!"
4) no more buying pads as an expense
5) no more bleeding through everything you are wearing and then onto your _____ fill in the blank (car seats, couch, kitchen chair.....)
6) no more buying underware every other month as you could not get the stains out of the ones you just ruined

I'm sure there are more!

I may have a high tolerance for pain. Was off pain pills by day 5 after the hysterectomy. Same after the C-Sections. Occasional motrin.

I went back after three weeks out of boredom and income loss.
Could not do physical labor like clean the house for another few weeks (so my husband was told....) but my job is to sit and look at numbers, so, no big deal.

EACH and everyone has a different time table to heal. You keep a good attitude, look for laughter in every day - don't let any grumpy people step on you - make sure you look out for you.

I know what you mean about after a c-section - picking up the baby is a lot of strain on the stitches. I had a 10 pound 9 ounce boy the first C-Section.
He was OVER the weight limit of what I was supposed to pick up. :~)

2nd child (daughter) was 9 pounds 12 ounces
3rd child (son) was 8 pounds 10 ounces (we called him the runt) lol

Wishing you enjoyment in every day!
