Question about bleeding post-op

OK, I know this sounds silly... but it's bugging me, and I simply cannot rest until I know.

Everything I read says to bring along pads for post-op vaginal bleeding, blah, blah, blah.

OK, if they are REMOVING the uterus-- then where in the heck is the bleeding coming from? I dont get it.

Question about bleeding post-op

Hi TraumaChick!

You don't need to bring your own pads or any other post-op "supplies" to the hospital. They will provide them.

I only had a little bleeding the first day after my surgery. I would guess it's just "leftover blood" coming out from the stitched-together tissues inside the body.

I am sending positive thoughts your way for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery!

Question about bleeding post-op

Hi there, welcome!

I haven't had surgery yet, but from what I've read here I think the bleeding/spotting is from the vaginal cuff area.

Question about bleeding post-op

That's correct - the vaginal cuff (created when the cervix is removed) may or may not spot or bleed as it heals.

You will see posts from ladies who experienced no bleeding at all to those who are still dealing with it weeks later.

For myself, I spotted a day or so, stopped, started again, and now three weeks later, it is only an occasional brown spotting, not even every day. Only for a few days did I even need a pad.

Question about bleeding post-op

So I am keeping my cervix, so I possibly won't bleed? The doc also told me that there is no "cut here" sign on my cervix (lol) and that there may be enough uterine tissue left to accumulate endometrial tissue and I may have micro periods.

Question about bleeding post-op

Hi;

I kept my cervix and I didnt bleed at the hospital or when I went home...please, if you are keeping your cervix, make sure you ask your doctor if he can cauterize your cervix during surgery (most of the time is done, but you never know), this way there is almost no chance of the "mini periods" or micro periods like 88Jrlvr said.
I only spotted between the 2-3 week and that was due to stitches healing, nothing major. it has been 4 months+ from my surgery and have not spotted nor blead, Praise God!

Question about bleeding post-op

Hey, My period was on the day of surgery as well and I just informed the nurse when I was admitted and everything was fine. From reading on this site I was prepared with my own pads to wear home because they are much smaller than the ones they give you in the hospital. I bled for the first day and then it stopped. The spotting comes and goes buts its nothing heavy. So my advice is to purchase a pack of pads and panty liners. I find that the pantyliners I use the most and that is occasional. The immediate blood will come from the surgery. Spotting afterwards comes from your internal stiches healing. That is what I was told by my doc. Hopes this helps.
