How much does a uterus weigh?

Thank you! I guess I just get caught up in "Mommy Mode" and want to get back to normal. I will definitely rest more and stop feeling guilty about it.

How much does a uterus weigh?

I went to my post - op on Wednesday the Doc said that my uterus was about 1 1/2 times larger then what was concidered normal. It with all the mess fibroids and polyps in the lining weighed 122 grams real close to a third pound. My belly is getting flatter with each day. The swelling it had caused was what made me look so big I am guessing.

How much does a uterus weigh?

I got a copy of the pathology report from my surgical resident. It was over 5.5 lbs and just under 6lbs. It measured 8 inches top to bottom, 6 inches side to side and about 5 front to back. the surgeon took a photo with his blackberry and showed me the shot the next day after surgery when i met him for the first and last time. I said you didn't by any chance take a photo? Yeah wanna see? Yeah I said - I'm weird that way. It was completely unrecogniazble a a uterus. Sadly I have gained back those 5.5 lbsa nd another 10 on top of that. (I say sadly but in reality it is good healthy weight)

How much does a uterus weigh?

You are not weird, I would have loved to have seen mine. I wasn't with it enough when I came to in recovery to ask for a look. My surgeon just said to me, "you've got nothing left, it's all in the bucket over there to be thrown out" I really wish that I had of been with it enough to say " give me a look at it". Let's face it, the mess all of us found ourselves in each month, would be nothing to having a look at the cause of it all. I just would have liked to have smiled at it say " now who's the winner???"

post op (Nov. 12) LAVH...sudden bright red spotting

My recovery has been fabulous and then today I had some unusual bleeding/spotting. Called Doc and nurse said sometimes people have it and it's ok if it's not a lot. Anyone else experience this? I panicked, but now I'm ok. I still have a little, but it's not as much as this AM. I'm ready to not wear pads and I want this swelly belly to go down! Other than that, everything has been excellent.

How much does a uterus weigh?

Hi Elsmell!
I too had bleeding post-op. Surgery was on a Wednesday and I had some bleeding but by Saturday I had none. The following Weds. was Halloween, and being the picture taking Mama that I am, I insisted on going to our church's carnival, but walked VERY slow, and sat down every time I needed to. Later that night, I started bleeding; bright red like a period but not heavy. As I looked at my husband (with his I-told-you-not-to-go-out look) I called my OBGYN and asked if I had possibly overdone it. He said I should take it easy still, but added that most women have bleeding off and on for 6 to 8 weeks, and this was probably NOT caused by walking around. After all, don't they get us up out of our hospital bed and encourage us to walk asap?!? LOL!!

Ginny27, you are RIGHT ON!!! I love your comment about "Now who's the winner?!" Glad to know I'm not weird about wanting to see the cause of most of my problems. When our 3rd and last baby was born, labor was so intense that I did not want to have the mirror postioned so I could see him emerge, even though I had wanted to when labor started. But after all was said and done, and since I knew that was our last baby, I did ask to see the placenta. My (male!) nurse was so great, he held it up and explained how it stretched and how strong it was to support our son. I think the human body is an awesome creation of God's perfect design made to accomodate our ability to carry and give birth to His most precious of gifts, and I think that's why I am so interested in how everything INSIDE works and looks.

POKETY, you are almost correct in the fact that God did a perfect design on us women. He could have changed a few things, like us always having the so called pms etc. But then when you look at his first draft (the male), he certainly improved heaps on that one, lol. As I have been brought up with all males, 4 brothers no sisters, and been married twice, and got 2 sons, they get a bit annoyed that they have no come back for me when I use that term, that you always make a rough draft before you perfect the final project. We as women can do more than one thing at a time, we can have 3 or more conversations going at the same time. My males just sit in awe, if I am ironing, talking on the phone, watching TV and can still give one of them the gesture to take out the rubbish. I really think that all men should just once in their lives experience a nasty period, with all the trimmings. The heavy flow, the aches and pains, the mood swings etc. lol... and the next time one of them go to call me a *****,...lol my turn to have them again, by just saying " no... not a total once anymore guys...drop the bch and I'm the IT in the middle"... have a good day..
