Back to work/in pain still - need advice

I am 6 weeks out after TAH/removal of one ovary. Back to work yesterday. I'm a paralegal so I sit at a desk all day. I could only make it 5 hours before I had to leave. Sitting put pressure on my insides and incision and I couldn't stand the pain. Does anyone have any advice on how to be more comfortable sitting?

On a separate note, at my 6 week appt. Dr. said it should be a few more weeks before I feel better, I probably have scar tissue and adhesions already and he wouldn't recommend sex for another 3-4 weeks! I asked if everything is healed inside - the reply was "should be." I can't figure out if that means yes or no - very frustrated right now.

Re: Back to work/in pain still - need advice

I was not released for sex until after my 8 week appointment. We still waited until week 11 because I was not emotionally ready. I am glad that I waited. As far as the pain, I didn't really start feeling better until about 8 weeks so you could just still be in pain from the surgery. Can you ask for half days? Or any more time off? Take it easy.

Re: Back to work/in pain still - need advice

It's very important that you get up from your desk every few minutes and walk around. Sitting for long periods can be very painful. If your company will let you, maybe you can work 1/2 days for a while. At 5 weeks, my doc said he would give me a letter saying I needed to work 1/2 days for a couple of weeks if necessary.

Best wishes!

Re: Back to work/in pain still - need advice

Thanks for the replies. My doctor had said he would give me whatever note I needed, so if my boss agrees maybe I can do half days. I was feeling pretty good at home and was thinking it wouldn't be that bad going back to work but I was so wrong. When I go back tomorrow I will walk more - I was getting up every hour but that didn't work.

You really do have to ease back into everything. Try half days at first. You will feel better as time goes by.
