adenomyosis

Hi
I posted in the other forum about alternatives, but I guess I should have posted here, because I already made my pre-op appt. My doctor thinks I have adenomyosis, and my left ovary is stuck in place and may need to come out also. I have a lot of back pain on the left side. My doctor gave me the alternative of trying continuous birth control use, but I don't think I want to do that because I took the pill for years and I wanted to get off it because of migraine headaches. Has anyone had any success treating adenomyosis with birth control pills? It just doesn't seem real hopeful, and would probably just cause worse headaches again. I hope I am making the right decision, it is so scary, but I am hoping for the best. Has anyone else had a "fixed" ovary and did it cause back pain. I wonder if it is that or the adenomyosis. I am glad I found this site. I have learned alot here.

adenomyosis

Hi Maureen- Just wanted to let you know that I tried to control my adeno (and endo) for years w/ bcp's. It didn't really work for me. I still had pain and breakthrough bleeding. I have an ovary that is stuck in place (attached to my uterus by endo). I don't know if that causes any of my pain. My docs think the majority of my pain is from adeno. HTH. Take care, Sarah

adenomyosis

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your reply. So are you still living with the pain? Are you thinking of a hysterectomy or have you had one? My husband thinks I should try the pill again, but I don't have much hope for it. I may try just until my surgery is scheduled and if it is not any better I'll just go ahead with the surgery. I could always delay the surgery if it seemed like it might help I guess. I know I am being wishy washy. I am just so scared of the surgery and what some people say about their ovaries just stop working. It is so hard when you don't know what the outcome will be. Are you still on the pill? Do you know if you have the surgery if you have to stop the pill ahead of time, or sometime after? This is such
a hard decision!
