2-weeks post hysterectomy, who's still on narcotic pain meds?

2- weeks post op from my lap TVH (kept ovaries) and I'm still needing more than just ibuprofen to get through the day. Is this normal?

I'm also experiencing both insomnia and nightmares when I do finally get to sleep. Advil PM is helping a little. Hope I get back to sleeping well, because besides the pain and sleep I'm starting to feel ok!!

My surgeon prescribed me 4 weeks supply of painkillers - I didn't use them all, but it's hard to recover if you're in pain.

Stay comfortable!

Thanks, that makes me feel better!! I'm hoping to be done with them before I run out... my surgeon gave me 20 days supply.

Re: 2-weeks post-op, who's still on narcotic pain meds?

Hello!
This is my first-ever post here. I'm at week 5 post-op BSO and TLH, though I'm unsure of the difference between that and TVH, because my uterus was removed through my vagina, but the paperwork is abbreviated as TLH.
...Annnyway, I was definitely still taking one or two painkillers a day at 2 weeks! I began after my surgery needing them at every available interval, and I was prescribed 30 pills. I eventually stepped down to 1-2 a day after a couple weeks; I've not needed any for awhile now and have 3 left over. In the early stages, you should definitely be taking the pain meds if you need them! That's what they are for, to keep you relaxed and comfortable.
As for the nightmares: unfortunately, in my experience - and (I think) a known side effect of opiate pain medication - is nightmares! The opposite of comfortable! I've had them just about every time I've been prescribed opioids for anything. Luckily, my round of meds for this surgery only brought on a couple. When I was a teenager, I had laparoscopic knee surgery, and the nightmares were so bad I could hardly stand to take the meds! I slept with my mom for a couple months, LOL!
As BethUK says, try to stay comfortable! I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better otherwise!!
Hugs and ...pats!!!There, there! Seriously, I love that emoji!
