No Bowel Prep!?!?
Just wondering,,
I had no bowel prep. All I was told, "nothing after midnight."Did they give me an enema when I went into surgery after I was out?
I choose to have a spinal with drugs.
Woke up on the table to see the sheet in front of me. I pondered whether to say a word. But then I said to myself, "What the H#**L, lets say SOMETHING!" I asked, "Hey Guys! Hows it going?" They all laughed and said, Its going great! We have about 5 more minutes go back to sleep."
I will never forget this one! Even laughed with my doc about it.
Hope I didnt swear at them if they did give me a secret enema.
Love you all for your help!

No Bowel Prep!?!?
you are TOO funny!
I don't have prep, either. NPO (nothing by mouth) after 10 pm. I will probably stop sooner, since I am most likely 1st surgery of day (monday!) and I never know if diarrhea or constipation will be my bowel problem of the day - today is constipation. UGH

I wasn't told to have an enema either. Just nothing to eat or drink after midnight. I don't think they do it for you either.

No Bowel Prep!?!?
You all have been the lucky ones!!! I had a TAH, 2-12. I had to use the citrus mag, and 2 enemias, and eat (drink) only clear liquids, not to mention the medicated douch before bed!!!
I think the worst part was drinking that nasty stuff!! I get sick to my stomach just thinking about it!!
Tonya
Good luck to you all! Remember to walk as soon as possible! I never suffered from gas, but I started walking at 3:30am after surgery!
Best wishes to you all!

No Bowel Prep!?!?
Hi bedaleigh,
Glad you had some "light" moments during your surgery. It's always good when you can get the docs to laugh with you.
As a nurse, I can assure you that they did not give you an enema while you were "under the influence of anesthetic agents". There is no way that could possibly work.
Hope you are feeling better and consuming your prescribed doses of chocolate every day, this is very important for a speedy recovery. The best to you. Suri

No Bowel Prep!?!?
Every doctor is different. I had to drink mag citrate (way sour but nothing horrible), do a suppository, take Flagyl (an antibiotic) and give myself an enema the morning of surgery. Clear liquids the day before surgery and nothing after midnight. In my case, I had a huge endometrioma that was pressing on my bowel and severe endometriosis. The doc thought he might have to cut the bowel if the alien was attached, so he wanted it empty. (I had a TAH/BSO)
I feel SO MUCH BETTER with that thing gone! This was a piece of cake.
