Am I a whimp?

My TAH/BSO was 5/4/05. I remember before I went on leave telling everyone at the nursing home I work at that I'd be back in a few weeks, since I didn't anticipate any problems. Everyone at the nurse's station LAUGHED at me!! Now, three weeks post op, I know why. I get around OK, walk approx. 30 min./day, go to stores, etc. when I am up to it; but EVERY time I go walking someone stops me and asks if I'm OK. I also live in drawstring shorts, tank tops and pj's. No way on earth am I ready to go back to work in 3 weeks. The residents at my center would be trying to take care of me! None of us are wimps (tho sometimes I have to remind myself of that). We're just being smart and careful, I think.

Am I a whimp?

Exactly! I am 12 wks post op and I am still very careful about what I do. I went back to curves at 7 wks, and I still don't use any of the machines that affect the stomach area. Not really sure if I could use them, now...but I tried a couple in my 8th and 9th wk post op and I was definitely not ready. Since then, I just walk and use the arm machines. Some people may think that is wimpy, but I don't care what they think...my stomach is still swollen at times and very tender to touch. I *do not* want to have any set backs, so I am taking it easy and doing what feels comfortable for me.

We have had *major* surgery - 6 mo to a yr is quite awhile off. Take time to heal and don't rush it. You will feel better every wk as long as you take it slow. Be good to yourselves!

Am I a whimp?

OK ladies, now you're hearing from the biggest wimp of all!! I'm almost at 8 weeks and still haven't been back to work yetand won't go back until the 9th week--even then it will just be at part time!!!!! I just can't imagine going back full-time yet! This healing process takes sooooooo long! I still get back pain and tire so easily (the doctor says I am still anemic though--have to get re-tested in a few weeks) but still, it amazes me that some of you think of going back at 3-4 weeks!!!! I "did" think that too, "before" surgery, but once it was done and I felt like I did , I realized there was no way!!!!!! So when you all think you're wimpy, think of me!!! I am 44 yrs old, too, think I'm in pretty good shape-- like the original writer-- could have been written by me!!! :snort: zanylynn

No, you are definitely not a wimp. I had my vag hyst two years ago. My second week postop, I, too, thought I was being a wimp and decided to do some housework. By midnight, I was in the hospital with a hemorrhage. REST, REST, REST!

You are NOT a wimp. I was scheduled to go back to work at 4 week post op and I couldn't do it. I waited 2 more weeks and went back. I'm working an 8 hour day and truthfully I'm tired by early afternoon. Listen to your body and go back to work when you are comfortable. Perhaps, you can start part- time. That's what I should have done.
