Wellbutrin and general anesthesia

Hi all,

My surgery is in six weeks, and now I am wondering if I am going to need to wean off my Wellbutrin before my surgery. I will have general anesthesia. Is there anyone here who takes Wellbutrin who had to stop it before the surgery?

I take Wellbutrin SR 300 mg/day.

Thanks!

Wellbutrin and general anesthesia

Hi there. I was taking Wellbutrin SR (300 mgs) too...all I was told was not to take it the morning of my surgery (that was at 7:30 AM) I didn't take it while I was in the hospital either because my surgeon ordered a nicotine patch. I was taking it primarily to stop smoking so I didn't need both. Then after I got out I still didn't take it and thankfully suffered no withdrawal. It made me feel awful the first 2 weeks I did take it (3 months prior to surgery) so I never restarted on it as I had enough problems with just trying to heal and deal with hormones. You should ask your DR about it for sure because some people do have bad reactions when the stop any meds "cold turkey".

I hope this helps you my sister.

Wellbutrin and surgery

I, too, am on Wellbutrin - seasonal depression. I did not take it the morning of my surgery, but other than that I have continued as normal on 200 mg 2 times a day. It would be dreamy if I could nix the stuff all together, but NOT until the war of the hormones is over in my body! Good luck!

Wellbutrin and general anesthesia

I also take wellbutrin. I had a rough time switching over to it after many years of taking a different kind of anti-depressant. I was only told to take nothing the morning of surgery unless I absolutely needed it. Like heart meds or blood pressure I guess. But I didn't need to and I don't remember if I skipped it until I returned home or if I brought my own and took it when no one was around. I think I just waited. You should have no problem at all.
