Retrieval Inhibition

Let's call it "retrieval inhibition." (instead of forgetting)

It's quietly disconcerting to me when someone will say, "we spoke about this a couple of days ago" and I have absolutely no recall whatsoever of even talking to that person, let alone to that person about a specific thing.

Or, I decide to do something and find myself in another part of the office or house with absolutely no idea of WHY I'm there.

There's no reason or pattern to what I do remember and what I don't remember. Thankfully, it's not been anything that would truly matter.

As for the menopause thing...I don't know if that applies to me. I kept my ovaries and I don't have the hot flashes, dryness, mood swings, crying jags, etc.

But, after thinking about it, I think I like retrieval inhibition...when I say it to other people, like..."Pardon me, would you mind refreshing my memory on this subject. I suffer from retrieval inhibition." They often look as confused as I feel.

Retrieval Inhibition

Hi my name is tanner and I too suffer from retrieval inhibition. I just went to my doctor for a mole removal and talked to him about short term memory loss. He was concerned and wantes to test my thyroid, to see if I am anemic and a bunch of other things (I forgot what else, big surprise). If the blood work comes back normal he wants to do a MRI. So here I go again, waiting to see what is wrong with me. Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread and turn it into my problems.
I so understand what you are talking about when you say you go into another room and have no idea why you are there, I do it all the time.
I guess, go have your blood work done to make sure there isn't a problem.
Good luck and keep me posted (if you remember)

Retrieval Inhibition

Tanner - I hate going to the doctor, any doctor, for any reason whatsoever, because they always seem to find something wrong. I figure, as long as I don't walk out into the parking lot one night and can't remember where my car is parked or where I'm at, then I can just bloody well suck it up.

My thyroid has always been a little overactive, but I've never had memory problems because of it. At least I don't remember them if I did (hah).

You can hijack my thread anytime. Keep me posted on what your doc says and how you're doing.
