Who went home less than 24 hrs after a lap hyst?

I went home during the 22nd hour. My doctor had said the same thing, if I think you need to stay, you will stay. I was worried that it wasn't long enough but (luckily) it ended up being more than enough. I wanted to stay as long as it took for me to pee for the first time, walk for the first time, have the pain stuff applied internally wear off, eat, just so I knew what to expect with all of it. That all happened in the first few hours, the rest was more of a 'why not stay, just in case' rather than a 'don't let me go, its too soon'. Listen to your body and your doctor, they'll get you what you need.

Harpin
I don't exactly qualify for the 24 hour turn around period, but I was discharged exactly 36 hours after my lap. hyst. The only reason that I had to stay the 36 hours was because of the bladder suspension, not because of the hyst. My surgeries took 7 hours total, due to the scar tissue that I had from previous surgeries. I had 5 rather large fibroids and a huge uterus, but my Doctor promised to try and do the surgery via the lap and he kept his word. They removed the cath. the next morning around 9:30am, and the first time I went to the bathroom, I emptied my bladder (the holy grail for bladder surgery and also the requirement for going home! They monitored my bladder until 6:00p that night, and the Urologist (that performed the bladder suspension) agreed to release me. If it wouldn't have been for the bladder surgery, I would have definitely been home in 24 hours. None of the nurses thought I could do it, which to me was a challenge, and I had to prove I was up for it! I gritted my teeth and got out of bed and went to the bathroom on my own the second time, then everytime after that. When they told me to eat, I ate, when they told me to walk, I walked.... I have 6 incisions from the two procedures, and I can tell you that I am doing great. I won't be running marathons anytime soon, but then again - I didn't before . If the Doctor can do your surgery via the lap, you should be fine to go home unless you have other issues. I was told more than once that there was no way I was going home without the cath, and I would say there is no way I'm going home WITH the cath. I won!

Who went home less than 24 hrs after a lap hyst?

fosterscreations - you will be with me that day, not physically, but in all other ways you'll be there and I will be counting on that.

Thank you all for your replies and I'm sorry I didn't reply to this thread sooner. I felt good so I was trying to catch up on all that I am behind on and then ran into the pain again.

It is reassuring to know there are women out there that have done okay with the short hospital stay. Very reassuring.

DH is taking the week off of work so he can be home with me and allow me to abandon my role of parent for a few days. Prior to knowing I'd be at the hospital for less than a day, he wasn't going to take any time off at all, in fact his boss and said no to time off.

So I will have him at home to help me.

Who went home less than 24 hrs after a lap hyst?

Hi sisters!
It's been 2 weeks since my lap hyster and I was home in about 14 hours from the hospital. I think that if I had stayed in there those nurses would have killed me! They were so mean! I had very little medical care and my poor husband had to take care of me. I found going home comforting and had no trouble walking/urinating. No gas problems either. I'm still having some crampy feelings and at 2 wks still can't do too much. I feel quite nauseous if I do.
Much luck with your operation and quick healing everyone!

Who went home less than 24 hrs after a lap hyst?

I went home at 23 hours. My insurance wouldn't approve anymore in spite of the LAVH being paired with anterior repair. But I am happy to report that I was fine so it wasn't too soon for me. Besides, the longer you are there the greater you are at risk of other infections! Best wishes ~

Who went home less than 24 hrs after a lap hyst?

I had a lap asst vag hyst and left the hospital early the next morning. I had a cathader in for a week due to bladder being attached to uterus, but the dr. removed it in her office. No big deal. I felt fine, just needed lots of bed rest at home where no one was waking me up to check my vitals or poking me with anything. Good luck to you.

after LSH

I had LSH with removal of stage 3 enso, adhesions, 1 ovary, and andenofibroma on other ovary. My Dr said I could stay 23 as well and encouraged it if I felt I needed it. I had surgery out of state with an endo specialist, and my DH was concerned about getting me back to our 6th floor hotel room. I felt so much better in recovery than before surgery! No more nausea, had pain, but it was different than before. After a few hours, I was switched to pain tablets rather than shots. My nice fluffy hotel bed was much more comfortable that the hospital, and I could give myself pain pills, so I took a walk around the ward, went to the bathroom, and left at about 4pm (surgery started at 7am). The hotel loaned us a wheelchair to get me to my room. I was very glad to be in more comfortable surroundings. IV or injection pain med is great, so as long as they are giving it to you, stay as long as you can. But if you are back on PO meds, just judge how you feel and how long it takes them to bring you medicaion and how stingy they are with it!

Who went home less than 24 hrs after a lap hyst?

I had an LSH (leaving ovaries and cervix) with rectocele repair and other external repairs (see my signature). It was all fairly uneventful and I did go home by the 23 hr 'standard'. I was really slow getting around and I stopped at the grocery store on the way home (went in but ended up back out in the car waiting on everyone) and i probably should've just gone home...but I wasn't any worse for the wear. Anyway, as I said, I was slow...and I was sore..I pretty much felt like I'd just had surgery It wasn't terrible, but I didn't feel like a million bucks either I read one study that said something like 80% of 'normal' LSH patients are released within 24 hrs and the remaining were released within 48 hrs. Or, something similar anyway...it's been awhile since I read that

Good luck!
