hi i'm new and am really grateful for this site

I'm scheduled for sept. 18th 7:30am. I'm not really even sure what i'm having .. from what the dr said to me i'm thinking its TAH/BSO but i'm not sure. I just heard hysterectomy and she didnt really tell me about the different types. She did say that i would be thrown into Surgical Menopause from it and said when we have the pre op visit she will decide on which way to cut me .. which is how i came to the TAH/BSO conclusion. I've been reading this site all weekend and it's really helped me a lot. I know my surgery is for the best. I have fibroids and they've really messed me up with cramps, clotting and heavy flow..i've been dealing with it for the last 10 years or so. Just have not pushed the issue for help with the dr. I had a week or so to get used to the idea of the fibroids before i met with my dr to discuss my options. I was pretty sure from what i had read on different websites that a hysterectomy was the best route for me..so i was not really surprised when she said hysterectomy. I found this site after i talked to my dr. It's been SO helpful to me as far as information. I just wanted to post a thank you to everyone on here for sharing their experiences.

Hi Christae,
Any thing you need to ask. Ask away. The ladies and myself will do the best we can to answer any of your questions. Be sure to write any and all of your questions down to ask your doctor when talk to your doctor. If you have questions for your doctor and will not be seeing your doctor for a while. Call her or her nurse up and ask.

I am 5 months post. Still have some mending to do yet. This is the best I have felt in some time. I am on hrt. Don't have any problems with it yet.

Good luck. Keep in touch. Oh, welcome to the site.

welcome!

On one hand I am full of sympathy that you have to have surgery, because it's a major thing to have to deal with in the middle of a busy life. But...

On the other hand I am happy for you that you are now being given the opportunity to end the period nightmare. You sound almost exactly like me -- I dealt with fibroids for 11 years, basically living with it until this year, and the monthly dread of the pain and blood was getting worse. I was ecastatic to be scheduled for surgery, then spent the next four weeks on an emotional roller coaster of doubt and fear, mixed with relief and hope, and then finally, 12 days ago I had my surgery, and I am thrilled. They found adeno, which helped explain why the pain and bleeding were so bad when my fibroids were supposedly "small." The surg and recovery have been so so so much easier than I thought it would be (I had a TVH), and since I have now missed my next expected period, my life is already better! I would expect your biggest challenge will be the hormone jungle, but you never know, I've read many stories where sisters had no problems even in that.

Here's hoping it all goes well. We're here for you!

Your sister,
Teena
