LAVH and Glaucoma concerns

Hi All!

I have 9 days to go before surgery and my surgeon has raised a concern about larocopic surgery and my glaucoma. If I understand it correctly his concern is that the position I will be in for surgery and the anesthesia will raise the fluid pressure in my eyes during surgery and may cause some damage to my vision. Has anyone heard or know anything about this? My Opthamologist is unconcerned and I don't know if I should be worried about this or not. As things are I would opt for degredadtion in my vision just to have my surgery... It's been 4 years working towards this and I was really optimistic till the whole vision thing came up. I've discussed it with my Husband, but I think any further discussion on the subject with him will shoot his stress levels through the roof. He's more nervous than I am about surgery. I think it's worth the risk, my glaucoma is degenerative so no hope of a fix there, if anything happens during surgery it would just be advancing the eventual progression of it. Am I being fatalistic? I just don't know anymore.

Stressed out :-(

Re: LAVH and Glaucoma concerns

I tend to agree with you. And besides, your opthalmologist isn't concerned, and he would know best. If he isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry too much, personally. I hope it all goes well with your surgery.

Re: LAVH and Glaucoma concerns

Thanks greyown, I am bound and determined to get my hysterectomy... Seems like I have been waiting forever for my insurance to say YES. As far as my vision goes, I'll deal with it if anything happens, fingers crossed that all goes well.

One step at a time...
