Regional differences in hospital stay?

I see from posts that a lot of people are in the hospital for four days (most of the posts I've read).

But from un unofficial, local survery, the women I've talked to around here (who had abdominal surgery) said they were in the hospital for two nights.

My doc says I'll be in for two nights (and that's what I hope will be the case for me, I have no intention of staying any longer than necessary).

I live in NJ. Is it because we do everything FAST around here?

Or do they keep women with children in longer, to give them more of a break (all the women I spoke with were child-free or had adult children)?

Regional differences in hospital stay?

My doctor told me 2-3 days. Hoping no more than 2 nights, but I too have noticed that some women have been in anywhere from 3-5 days.

Regional differences in hospital stay?

Hi lizpagan,

There's definitely a difference between length of hospital stays in the U.S. and the U.K. , but not so much from state to state here.

Most insurance companies will approve an initial number of days, and then, if your doctor doesn't believe that you are ready to go home yet, he will contact them and extend the time, so it's more of an individual thing than a regional difference.

If you are doing well, then you may be released after 2 or 3 nights - if you need a little bit more time, then you may have to stay a little bit longer.

I hope all will go well for you.
