I had my pre-op labs and now the fear is BIG!(kids mentioned)

My TAH is the 18th and I am beyond scared! I found out in August that I was in need of a hysterectomy and due to a horrible freak accident with my two year old ( he had to have emergency BRAIN surgery! He is fine now)and two weeks later I had to have gallbladder surgery I had to put things off awhile. Not wanting to have to deal with yet another surgery. I have been in shock from the info and realized the pain wasn't going to get any better so I scheduled the surgery. I can't believe it has gone by so fast! I have gotten my home as ready as it can be, meals cooked and family to watch the young ones. Now with three days out I am thinking to much! I am excited about a pain free life and possibly having a sex life again, but not about the recovery. I think that is what scares me the most. The surgery does somewhat, but the pain after wards scares me more. I am a bit of a wienie so I am nervous about my pain tolerance. I thought the gallbladder surgery was awfull! I guess the one good thing about my pre-op labs was that I don't have to have a bowl prep!! YEA! Thanks for letting me ramble. Any advice on calming the nerves would be great!

Everybody's tolerance to pain and recovery is different. I had an easy one so far. Don't get freaked out if you find views are too one sided sometimes. Most people post on this site when they are seeking answers to questions or needing to vent. The recovered ones have run off into the "daisy fields" so to speak, so we rarely hear from them, because they have moved on with their lives. What you will get from this is site is love, comfort and understanding. Good luck with your surgery. I wish you an easy recovery.

Honestly it's the waiting that is the worst - not so much the pain. While we all heal differently I found that once I managed my pain (the "good" stuff in the hospital and then only Tylenol and Advil at home) things came around nicely. The mistake I made at week 3 was thinking I didn't need anything during the day - and eventually got "sore". I panicked and thought I had injured myself or had an infection or hematoma or...or...went to the Dr. who then said "What are you taking for the pain?" Duh! Within 1/2 a day of taking my Advil again I felt so much better!
You sound very well prepared so just make sure you really do take it very easy and pamper the princess! Good luck and here's to good health!

First of all, let me say how glad I was to read that your 2 yr old is fine now... whew! NOTHING worse than a sick kid... and for it's worth, our situations/surgerys seem very similar only I shuld be oldnscared and I am scheduled for 4/4 -- I asked my GP to Rx Xanax for this month... she did... it helps... and I learned that I don't have to have bowel prep either... I am still wondering why... AND... I have had my gall bladder removed too.. and I will tell you that it <to date> was the very WORST medical exerience of my ENTIRE life.. and girlfriend, I have been through a few!!! So, haing said THAT... I'd be willing to bet that this is going to be easier than you expect... and like you, I am so not ino the pain that I know is right around the corner and I have a five yr old little girl who requires alot of time and attention, but it sure will be nice to have sex again... and losing allof this discomfort will be a real treat as well... LOL... my *real* concern today is removing my acrylis nails... whaaa... My preop appt is not until the day before my surgery... and it says NOTHING about nails or polish in my paperwork..... I'm trying to figure out if I should call and ask or just try to sneak 'em through... hehehe

I'll be waiting to read your post op thread... <hugs>

Thank you Lorylyn I feel better about it all now that I know I am not the only one that thought the whole gallbladder experience was just Terrible! Thanks for making me laugh as well. I don't have to worry about my nails since I have been peeling them off with nervousness! Oh and just between you and me I am not all that young really. (34) I thought I was a bit on the young side to be needing a hysterectomy but from what I have seen on here there are a lot younger on here that do and I feel for them. Oh and one more thing we may have in common is, if Lyn is your middle name so is mine even spelled that way one N. Take care and I will post when I can after my trip to the Castle. Hugs to you as well.

A general rule is no nail polish on fingers or toesI am five days post op & can't wait to get a pedicure soon as I can drive I will be at the beauty salon . I have struggled with anxiety most of my life & started taking lexapro 10 mg a few yrs ago.It works great for me I no longer have panic attacks.I have used xanax it works but wears off quick.Lexapro takes a few weeks to start working then for me it does the trick.I didnt allow myself to get to worked up before hand, kept busy with working til the day before. I was very concerned about the pain. I think you ladies will do great,I have never had a gallbladder surgury,my sister & best friend did.My best friend also had a hysterectomy. She thought the gallbladder was worse. You have sore tummy muscles which you have to protect from children & pets!!& Coughs & laughs, praise the lord I haven't sneezed! But it has been far less painful than I had feared.Don't forget you are tough ladies who have been through major pain, this wont be as bad as what you have been through & then you will feel better everyday as long as you take it easy & follow the rules!

I had my pre-op labs and now the fear is BIG!(kids mentioned)

During my pre-op on friday I was telling the Doctor about my past surgeries, pain control, nausea, etc. She told me "this one will be much easier for you" Well, I have heard that before & it has always been worse than I anticipated. Why do Dr's always make light of it? Anyway, the only surgery which was not Worse than I expected was when I had part of my liver removed. Yes, it was the worst experience I have EVER had but, I was told it was going to be. I really think it is frame of mind. Since I expected to feel horrible for the first ten to 14 days, I didn't fight it & the receovery was actually better. I am going into this one knowing that it will be worse thatn I have been told & if it isn't then I will be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck tomorrow!!
