hysterctomy for severe dysplasia?

That's why I'm having a TVH on 12/26 -- severe dysplasia. My understanding is that this is a pre-cancerous condition, which could lead to cancer if left untreated. Since I'm not having anymore babies, I decided not to risk cancer and have the hysterectomy. I have an uncle who is an ob-gyn in another state and he concurred after reading my path report. I'm not hesitating. It's the right decision, especially if you don't plan to have children or more children.

Although I did not have dysplasia, I wanted to stop by and encourage you to get a second opinion from a gyn/onc. Even though you have not been diagnosed with cancer, these docs are truly the experts in their field. I think it will provide you with alot of piece of mind to have them take a look at your history and pathology.

If you have any doubts at all about your decision, it's best that you seek that second opinion. You won't regret it.

Please stop back and let us know how things go for you.

hysterctomy for severe dysplasia?

I had endometrial hyperplasia, which is not the same thing, but which has a similar prognosis to what little I've read about cervical hyperplasia. (left untreated it may turn to cancer, you can try other treatments or be cautious and have the hyst).

I agree with the other posters about getting a 2nd (or more) opinion. The second opinion I got really put my mind at ease. His explanations were different from, but complementary to, my doctor's. I felt like between the two of them, I had a clear picture of my options which made me much more comfortable with my final decision. In my case, the alternative to the hyst was HRT and constant follow-up. Due to a history of breast cancer in my family I was trying to avoid HRT if possible.

As it turned out, once my doctor opened me up they found severe endometriosis, so it was a good decision for several reasons.

I must say a second, third or even 4th opinion is helpful. You want to be sure you are making the right decision for you and your family. I was diagnosed with Endometrial hyperplasia with atyipia. The first doctor said I had second stage cancer, the 2nd doctor said I shouldn't worry about it come back in 6 months for a follow up. But what the 2nd doctor didn't tell me was after I had the Novasure (endometrial abilation) that the scar tissue could be hiding the cancer and that the laser could have caused the cancer cells to spread and 6 months from now I could have full blown cancer. I went to the 3rd doctor to get another opinion and he explained that I had endometrial hyperplasia with a tipia and he explained to me that it was not cancer but cancer cells that exist in my uterus and the abilation caused a large amount of scar tissue which could not be biopsied afterwards to find the extent of the cancer so therefore, for me it would be best to have a hysterectomy. So I made my decision based on that. I am 36 and have no children nor DH(i am assuming this means husband). So find a good Oncologist. My oncologist took the time to explain it to me and how long I might have before cancer may become an issue for me. Don't feel rushed to make a decision but be aware that time is limited and you don't want a problem that exists to become worst than it already may be. Just a thought. Prayer is always important in case of heavy decisions supplication is so important. He knows what is right for you.
