back pain 7 months post abdominal hysterectomy

I woke up from the surgery with severe back pain, no real complaints about the abdominal incision just the back pain. It seems to come and go. I am not sure if it was the positioning during the surgery or not. Anyone else with similar lasting symptoms????

There are many things that can cause back pain. At the 7 month mark, however, I doubt it is a result of your position during surgery. However, the fact that it started upon waking from your anesthetic does send up the question marks. What does your surgeon say?

I started having awful bone pain, especially in my lower back and hips, about one year out. Taking Osteo-Biflex (triple strength glucosamine chondroitin) nipped it in the bud. I also use compounded hrt, but notice it has not helped me with the bone pain, as it returns anytime I run out of my Osteo-Biflex and try to go more than one week without it.

I hope some other Sisters shall come along and share as well. Hope you find your answer........pain is a bummer, especially the chronic kind!

I too have severe lower back pain. I am going into the sixth week after a TAH. My fallopian tubes were attached to my back and had to be cut out before removing them.

I too have severe lower back pain. I am going into the sixth week after a TAH. My fallopian tubes were attached to my back and had to be cut out before removing them. I had the back pain before the surgery and was told the fibroids were probably causing this. I am now experiencing severe pain in my left hip intermittently to the point where I cannot apply pressure to the leg. My gyno told me after this amount of time it is not related to the surgery and referred me back to my family doctor. I am requesting an MRI which I requested from her before the surgery, but she too, assumed the pain was the fibroids. I will let you know what I find out. My hysterectomy was a breeze as far as the incision and everything else. It is this back pain that is making the recovery uncomfortable. The funny thing is that before the surgery, I could not get rid of the back pain no matter what I did. Now I can relieve the pain by lying down on my side or sometimes on my back. It takes a while to get in the right position, but at least there is some relief. Although one cannot spend their entire life lying down. Hopefully I will get in to have the MRI soon. My surgery was January 25, 2008. Maybe I will find the cure for all of us.
