Re: Has anyone else been asked if you are pregnant???

People can be SO stupid! I've been asked a few times about it prior to my hyst. I've had 2 c-sections which have left my stomach quite round. It doesn't help that I've always battled stomach fat either.

My stock response to the question is, "nope I'm just fat." I try not to get too upset about the question. The thing that mystifies me is people look for reason's for asking the questions like, "oh it just must be that shirt," or "you had your hand on your belly." Like it's my fault you asked such an insensitive question.

Re: Has anyone else been asked if you are pregnant???

Actually people just don't think b4 they open their mouths! LOL!
After my op a woman asked me where the baby was, I just told her there wouldn't be any more.
I must say I get sick of people and their comments about everything and anything- it's beyond me at this age now- I don't take any notice of what they say!
I expect I'm as guilty as anyone!

lilgozz
goood for your DH. I would have been at a loss for words. You poor lady.
I would maybe have been rude, as I have grown wiser in my 38 years, and tell her to get out of your face and mind her own business. I was asked if I were pregnant before the surgery, as my issue caused my tummy to be about 2 sizes bigger than previously. It was a 14 yr old student, who doesn't think often, so I let it go. .lol
I kind of thought I looked that way myself after surgery, I tried to hide it with clothes of course, and I didn't leave the house too much post op. I have never asked that question of anyone else. I wait till they are obviously pregnant.

Re: Has anyone else been asked if you are pregnant???

I had my LSH the end of July and always read this site, truly the most imformative! I finally joined so I can reply to your message. I went and got a flu shot the other day and even after checking no that I wasn't pregnant on the form, the pharmacist asks me if I'm pregnant and I said "no, why?". He then tells me the shirt I was wearing made him ask. I said "I had a hysterctomy 2 months ago, I guess I'm still swollen".

Re: Has anyone else been asked if you are pregnant???

I still think the truth is the best answer to this because its going to make them feel the worst for asking the question

Re: Has anyone else been asked if you are pregnant???

There is one situation in which this question is appropriate, and all women should expect it:
When you go in for any type of radiologic exam (x-ray, CT, MRI, PET, etc.)

This is a required question because of the potential for damage to an unborn child in any gestational stage. Please do not expect every x-ray tech or radiologist that you encounter, to know that you have had a hysterectomy. They usually are not privy to your chart and medical/surgical "hystory." You will be asked as a matter of routine.

Re: Has anyone else been asked if you are pregnant???

None of my questions have been asked by anyone in the medical profession. Just this morning at my sons soccer game I was asked "so are you hoping for a girl this time?" (I have 3 little boys) I said "no unfortnantly we will never have that chance" she just looked at me and I took advice and told her the truth. I said no I had to have everything removed in August and I am still recovering and that involves my swollen Belly. She felt awful and apologized 5 times. I just said it was okay and by her face I don't think she is going to be asking anyone else that question.
