One month away! Where to start planning?

Surgery is one month away! We have a week long camping trip next week, then my son is home on military leave for 9 days...then 2 days later is surgery!

So I really only have like 10 days to get ready for this...where do I start? I'm usually very organized and make lists...but when I panic, I get nothing done.

Starting to panic!

Re: One month away! Where to start planning?

Hi sickofbeingsic
First, I suggest you take a deep breath and then absolutely enjoy that camping trip (keep a separate note pad beside you when you are making those camping lists in case you get distracted with surgery prep).
You will likely do things to get your house cleaned and food cooked while you are preparing for your son's visit so that will be looked after.

Do nothing but enjoy having your son home for those 9 days and while he is there, thank him for me and my family for his service.

We also thank your whole family, for when one is serving, all are serving.

If you are usually organised, all will fall into place.
Wishing you well.
Hugs,
Suzanne

Re: One month away! Where to start planning?

Hi!
Take a deep breath! Then get a notebook (or whatever you use to keep organized with), make a place for surgery prep: At home, things to do before...like deep cleaning, cooking etc. make a place for things to buy for post op: colace, gas x, jello, broth etc. Go through the members hints forum and jot down what to bring to the castle, what to have ready in your recovery lair (bedroom) and all the great ideas that fellow sisters have already thought of for you!
You will be fine!! 10 days is plenty of time.
Have your family read the mister sister stuff, it might help them help you!

Re: One month away! Where to start planning?

There's lots of time. Cleaning---thats up to you. Cooking ahead---one day of big batches. Buying what's on your list---one shopping trip. Keep in mind that the lists are what you would need for max possible worst scenario need everything sort of situation. I was too stressed to clean, bought frozen food, used only lip balm and hand lotion from what I packed, and I was OK. (I didn't see any prep lists beforehand so was blissfully ignorant of all I "should" have done). So you'll get it done, and if you forget something, it'll work out anyway, most likely. Enjoy yourself guilt free and just make your lists so you see what you need to do. The activities will help you stay busy and not worry.
