That smell...

OK, it's not the most pleasant topic, but it has been clearly established that there is a certain "odor" that goes along with the internal stitches dissolving.

That said, how long can we expect this unpleasantness to stick around??? I'm two weeks post-op. Any long-timers have a helpful word or two regarding when the smell might disappear?
Thanks!

Hi!

I'm not so sure at two weeks out that it's your stitches dissolving. Mine didn't make an appearance until 5-6 weeks after my surgery. I don't remember any bad smell at the point you're at. It might be nothing or may be an infection. Perhaps it would be a good idea to call your doctor just to be safe. It may be nothing, but why not be sure?

Hopefully someone else will come along with more to offer you - until then I hope all is well!

Good luck and quick healing!

Here is an article that explains a little bit about some of the reasons you can experience an odor: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/article_97111.htm.

Hopefully it won't last long for you, but do check with your if you have any concerns. Best wishes to you!

Sick -

I had this start about day 12 and ended about day 20. Not the biggest deal of the year and I am pretty sure as aware as we are of the odor, those around aren't.

That smell...

Sick ~ Somewhere between week 2 and 3 I began to have the brown drainage. I can't call it "discharge" because it was more like a period. I was concerned about the odor and especially the quantity. I went to see the Dr and after he examined me he assured me everything was fine and my recovery was right on target. He recommended a sitz bath twice a day to help with the odor. But as luck would have it the quantity and odor declined sharply after my appointment. I could smell the odor through my pajamas and thought that since the odor was so strong that others could smell it too. I asked my boyfriend and he said he could not smell it. Phew! I hated that part of my recovery.

You are NOT alone my dear!

Thanks to all who have responded... I was pretty sure this was common, but it is always great to have reassurance!

That smell...

I had a TAH Oct. 5 and I, too, have noticed this odor, however, my boyfriend can not. I am a little over 2 weeks post-op, and feeling really great. I have very little pain, and the odor I've noticed is more or less when I'm "aroused" (sorry if that's TMI).

I had the brownish discharge for the first week post-op, but it tapered off and has disappeared completely. I know that I do not have an infection, and I'm only 2 weeks post-op, so I also think it could be my stitches disolving.

Hoping everyone else is feeling well.

Wow, Melly... I had my hyst the day after you. I'm still nowhere NEAR interested in arousal! Good for you!
