Mood swings post op - TAH, KEPT ovaries

My biggest negative is my mood swings. I KEPT my ovaries...they were not taken, so this shouldn't be a hormonal thing. My doctor didn't seem to have a good explanation other than "your body has gone through a lot this week. The trauma of surgery, Anesthesia, and pain meds could all be contributing...." blah blah .... My mood swings are worse than 10x the PMS I've ever had. I just start crying out of nowhere. I get mad. I cry again. I feel like the world is against me. Like everything I do is wrong. Then I'm ok. Then I cry again.

Is anyone else experiencing mood swings from hell who KEPT their ovaries??? It's quite unnerving.

Had surgery (TAH) Mon Nov 5th, out of the hosp on Wed, staples out today (fri). In the hosp the pain killers were making me so nauseous and loopy, I ended up feeling better on 1/4 of the meds. For the most part, mostly doing tylenol and ibuprofen at home, with 1-2 oxycodones a day.

I'm moving around well, a little slow, but well enough. The outside of my skin near incision feels a bit numb still, quite a bit of bruising in that area. Tummy feels heavy and like it's sliding off my body. Wanted to through a party when I finally had a bowel movement ---and the pressure that released THANK GOD!

The big problem for me is the crying and depression of sorts -- not sure where it's coming from. ??

Re: Mood swings post op - TAH, KEPT ovaries

Hello,
I had a SAH on Sept 25th. I kept one ovary and cervix. In the beginning I was an emotional mess too! Definitly your body in shock from surgery. Your horomones are trying to get back on track. I was like that for about two weeks. I think, lol! But was comforted to know things were working down there.
Now I am almost seven weeks post op i've noticed a high libido and achy breast. My guess is pre menstrsal symptoms. So hang in there.

Riding similar roller coaster here. So far today has been alright but the last couple days I was bawling like a baby. Freaked me out.

I am glad to know I am not the only one dealing with crying. It has been a rough year for me and this surgery has only added to it. I just feel sad and alone most of the time.

I am 4 days post op. kept my ovaries. I have been on lexapro for 5 years and so I think that has really helped me through this stage of the post op. thank goodness. If it gets bad talk to your dr. You should not feel like that. Hang in there.

I think I figured out the problem. I was having a reaction to the oxycodone... Once I stopped taking it, I didn't have one more crying episode. "). Hugs!!!
