Six days after surgery and still have Foley??

On Monday the 8th I had a partial hysterectomy (Uterus and Cervix removed), a bladder sling, and posterior and anterior repair. Tuesday afternoon they removed the foley/catheter. Several hours later they had to put it back in cause I cause not able to fully empty my bladder. Wednesday I came home with the foley. The Dr. said it was normal. I am scheduled to get it removed and try again on Wednesday. Is this common? Will my bladder be okay? Thank you!

Re: Six days after surgery and still have Foley??

I am not sure if it totally normal but I had my surgery on the 11th and was also sent home with a catheter. I wanted to cry ... But I have no other choice but to deal with it and pray I get no uti... I had a supracervical hysterectomy ( removing uterus - leaving cervix n ovaries)... I too have a mesh repair... So your not alone catheter sister lol .... I won't be trying again until Tuesday am already going nuts with it.

Re: Six days after surgery and still have Foley??

Hi, I had all the same repairs almost eight weeks ago. My urogyn always makes his patient keep a foley for an entire week. He really believes that the bladder needs rest after such trauma. It is annoying, but my bladder has been working like a champ ever since. No leaks either! Good luck with your recovery!

Re: Six days after surgery and still have Foley??

My surgery was 7/19 and I came home with the foley. Kept in for one VERY LONG WEEK!!! Hated it but I knew it was necessary for my bladder to heal properly. Just remember that the week will be over soon and that it is all worth it in the end. Your bladder will be very weak after the foley is removed. My urine trickled out for a while after but got stronger every day. It is slowly returning to normal but still not all the way. It will take time. Good luck!!
