What if I get my period?

I'm really glad its Friday! 1 day less to have to wait! Surgery on Tuesday the 8th (Dr tried to get date for 1st, but no luck), but I have a question I haven't seen anyone talk about yet. What happens if I get my period this weekend! If it would have4 been done on the 1st no worries! But now I'm worried, would they cancel if I do?

I asked my doctor this question before my surgery as my surgery was moved up and my periods were very erratic at the time so I didn't know when it would happen. He said that it wouldn't matter and the surgery would go on as planned. I was hoping that I wouldn't get it at all, but it came the week before. Sort of a last hurrah.

I don't think that it will cause a cancellation if you do start your period. I was still bleeding after a D&C at the time of my surgery and everything went as scheduled.

That's good to hear, thank you! I was hoping to have had my last, but I'd bet no such luck of course! My cycle weeks frequently change too lately would have been ok done on the 1st. I will be so happy not to deal with this anymore! :-)

My Doctor told me it wouldn't have mattered whether I had it or not so don't worry.

I went in with my period, no problems. You cannot take any ibuprofen though (i.e. advil/motrin) or alleve for about 7 days prior to hyst surgery because it thins your blood. Best wishes for your upcoming surgery.

Thanks for asking this because I was wondering the very same thing. My surgery is in 12 days...the 16th and can not come soon enough.

I remember laying in the waiting area, ready to go in, and had to get a fresh pad from the nurse. God bless. You will be so glad when it's over.

I just had my LAVH on Tuesday - after the three-day Memorial weekend. I hadn't thought to ask this question in advance, and when I started my period on Saturday, I was afraid it would interfere with my surgery. I called the doctor-on-call, who told me that with an LAVH at least, it wouldn't affect anything. I was so relieved!

When I was in pre-op at the hospital, I did have to tell the pre-op nurse that I was on my period. She gave me special undies and a pad to wear with my hospital gown until surgery.

My period started two days before the surgery, and was "full flood" mode on the day of the surgery. The nurses were great and gave me a new pad (with a belt - OMG, when was the last time any of us have seen THOSE?!?) and the best part was that when the surgery was over - I had a LSH - my period was over too! Woo hoo!!
