Re: Question for those who are now years post-op
I'm almost 2 years post op and have had no life time restrictions. I can lift heavy things and I move furniture to clean behind and have not had any issues. I'm going to my gyn in a couple of weeks for a check up, a good question to bring up.

Re: Question for those who are now years post-op
I am right at nine years post op from having the LAVH. My mother is over 20 years post op from having the TVH. Neither of us had any issues with prolapse, neither of us have any lifting restrictions. Thus, we go about our lives as if we had never had a hysterectomy, lifting whatever we want, as long as the rest of our body co-operates! We both lift kids, move furniture, lift suitcases, vacuum, etc. etc. etc.! For us, lifting affects our fibromyalgia, not our pelvic region!

Re: Question for those who are now years post-op
At 12 weeks post-op and former (hopefully future again) gymrat, I can tell you that what my brain thinks I'm comfortable with and what my body is actually comfortable with are light years apart.
I have to be so careful to not overdo it because I know what I *used* to be able to do but now my body says no way and I end up with shooting little pains in my abdomen later on in the day. argh.
Be careful out there. As I read somewhere you only get one chance to heal correctly. And heaven help me take my own advice.

Re: Question for those who are now years post-op
I was reading an interesting article today and wanted to share it here but did not save the site sorry
Anyway it discussed post surgical instructions and restrictions saying many doctors have different opinions and protocols but there really has been no clinical studies to support these views. The author stated after a women has healed from a hysterectomy where proper support was implemented there should be not restrictions placed on activities. He did make it clear that no vaginal penetration, sex, pushing or pulling activities should be engaged. He also felt all housework should be avoided during the initial healing phase and a manual pelvic exam with visual inspection should be performed prior to being released
As I said I just read this today and didn't successfully save it. I have no idea of how reliable the content is. As always just sharing information of interest not recommending anything. Everyone should check with their own physician and follow those orders explicitly.
Happy Healing

My doc. wasn't worried about prolaspe with me, but I had virtually no restrictions after about 3 months. At 6 months I was back to hard core Karate.

Re: Question for those who are now years post-op
Thanks for thi info hope09. I always enjoy reading your posts I have followed my doctors orders to the "t" . That way if things were to fail I would not blame myself knowing I did everything I could to get it right! I am still going to be a bit cautious in my lifting and moving heavy items in the future however- better safe than sorry.
Good day ladies

Re: Question for those who are now years post-op
I would be in a world of trouble if I had lifting restrictions past my 12 weeks . . . my bowling ball alone weights 15 lbs, and I throw it down the lane at least 36 times a week . . .
Seriously, though, it does vary from person to person, strange as that may be. Just be careful and make sure that you do what is best for you!
