1 day shy of 3 weeks post-op.

I had my surgery on August 12th. I had my Ovaries, Fallopian Tubes, Cervix, and Uterus removed via Da Vinci. I woke up before arriving in the recovery room in a substantial amount of pain. The nurse gave me some iv pain meds as soon as they wheeled me to the recovery room.

I didn't have any nausea or anything like that. I did have some shoulder pain which I later found out was gas! Who would've thought gas could go all the way up to your shoulder! Not me!

I was up walking about within the hour after arriving in my room as I demanded for the catheter to be taken out. I had pain, but it wasn't as bad as what I was expecting. I've had 3 back surgeries, gallbladder surgery, 4 deliveries, so I did have some pain experiences to compare it to.

I was released the next day and was doing GREAT! 2 days post-op I began to feel a little bloated and couldn't pass gas. My husband and I walked, and we walked, to no avail. The next morning I woke up in terrible pain, and was tremendously constipated! After 4 or 5 different failed attempts to have a bowel movement I realized something was terribly wrong. I tried using a mineral oil enema to help, gas-x, prune juice, water, walking. Everything I had read that would help didn't.

I had to have my husband rush me to the emergency room. I was impacted. 2 nurses tried manually to give me some relief, but it wasn't enough. They sent me home, and i had no business being home. I called my Dr.'s office and they re-admitted me to the hospital where I discovered I had a rectocele either from the straining and constipation or from the manual attempt of removing the impaction.

The next week after that was worse pain than anything I have ever felt in my life! Tomorrow is 3 weeks post-op for me and the bowel thing is getting better as I am taking stool softeners morning, and evening. I do however have some spotting that started yesterday and prior to this I had not had ANY. Only 2 spots the day of surgery. Yesterday I was having some pubic bone discomfort and mild stinging. I took the day to rest today to see if that helped with the spotting and pain, and it has.

If the pain starts up again tomorrow and the spotting hasn't stopped should I call the Dr.?

My policy is: if in doubt, call the dr. It's better to be safe.
