What you're describing isn't normal. Are you taking hormones? In any case, you need to contact your doctor to see why you're retaining fluid. I hope you feel better soon.

this is concerning!i had alot of fluid retention after i left the castle, and the doc put me on lasix. it was very wierd to have so much swelling. it was only from the waist down. i have never seen anything like it. neither had my doc. it was pretty extreme! keeping my feet elevated helped a ton! i also bought some of those ted hose. i bought the cheap ones. they work just as well. the question i would ask though, is why are you having this?! good luck and let us know what happens! hugs.

There are lots of reasons for water retention, and many of them are completely benign. Did you eat a lot of salty food yesterday? Are you drinking enough water? Are you urinating? Regularly? Did you keep your ovaries?

If you don't drink enough water, your body thinks it needs to prepare for a drought, and it retains all you have. If you drink lots, it thinks there's no drought and lets nature take its course.

Some medications will make you retain water, and some will make you dump water. Some hormone supplements can have either effect. The same pain medications that make you constipated also make you retain water. What are you on?

Do you have a history of kidney problems? Heart trouble? Athsma? HIgh blood pressure? (If you have a blood pressure cuff, this would be a good time to check it.)

Were you on your feet a lot yesterday or the day before? Do you have "pitting"? (If you mash the flesh next to your shin bone, does it leave a dimple that lasts for several seconds?)

Spend today off your feet and drink LOTS and LOTS of water. Stay away from salt. If you haven't dumped a lot of water by morning, call the doctor on Monday.

Swelling-Thank you

Thank you ladies for your help. I do have hypertension and have check my pressure, it is "normal" for me. I do not miss a day with pressure meds. I took your advice and stayed off my feet for the past 24 hrs and that helped, I had very minimal swelling. I do plan to check with my doctor today! Will let you all know the results.

Thanks again.

Swelling

I suffer from swollen legs too. I have noticed it comes after a few days my stomach has been acting up and I've had D all day. Seems my dr feels its dehydration or lack of protein.
I just had bloodwork to see if my electrolytes are off.
Can hormone inbalance cause this?
