I just got off of the phone with my primary care docand she has given me some advise on pre and post-op diet that seemed to make so much sense that I am surprised I hadn't thought of it sooner and I felt like I just had to share it!! She has assisted my surgeon on several procedures including hysterectomies and c-sections and I trust her implicitly. But DO NOT take my or her advice over that of your own doctor !!!!! She has advised my to try activia yogurt for the first week after surgery, as some fresh fruits, veggies may make you more uncomfortable with gas and that will already be bad enough, I hear. She has also said to add soy product (ie soy milk on cereal) as it may help with hormone balances. She has aslo recommended Live Active products, such as their cheeses and cereals as they have active cultures that may aid in digestion and help the colon to get regulated again after surgery. Hope that this may help and be sure to ask your own
before you make any dietary changes. Good luck to all of you who are getting ready to go to the Castle soon!! Be sure to pamper yourselves not only when you get back, but at least a little bit beforehand. My DH got me a gift certificate for a mani/pedi, facial, and haircut and style for the day before my surgery. He has really been such a sweet heart about all of this.
