A Brazillian????

This may sound nuts but I was given my surgery date the other day (12 August) and was told I would have to have a full shave or a brazillian. I am having a LAVH, excise endometriosis, remove scar tissue and any adhesions. I found out also that I would not be keeping my cervix as sometimes they continue to bleed each month. Is it normal to have to have a Full shave?

I am already crying in bed at night worrying about having this done, and by a total stranger, and then to be told that I have to shave it all - just topped it off. I know it sounds stupid but I am a very private person so to speak and also very shy - anything to do with "Down There"gets me so wound up. Can someone out there please help - I feel I am going to go absolutely bonkers!!

A Brazillian????

Hi

I had a TAH/BSO and they shaved about half of my hair off. They did it while I was asleep so I wasn't embarrased at all because I was out cold.

As for being afraid to talk about the whole situation, I would encourage you to look through the Forums of both Pre and Post-op patients in this site There is a lot of good information here!
Also, don't be afraid to post questions here. No questions are considered to be too embarrasing. We have a lot of different folks here who have all had different experiences

You have plenty of time to look into the other posts - they are very helpful and might answer some of your fears.

Sending you a big

Patty

A Brazillian????

Please don't stress about this. Talk to the nurse about this at your pre-op visit. I'm sure that if you ask, they will make a note to shave you after you are asleep. I had TAH, so I only needed about an inch shaved at the top.

A Brazillian????

Hi, I had a tah also, so only had an inch "off the top" too. I was also asleep when it was done. I think that you should ask as it's worrying you so much.
Best wishes

Ok Im not so shy!!

I do it myself, I routinely shave(DH) likes it,
its strange the first time, but ask your dr, also if you start shaving now(if dr ok's) the irritation will be over by surgery time,
and smaller risk for infection, the more you do it the more your skin gets used to it!!
hope that helps some!!

A Brazillian????

I had an abdominal hyst and they only took about an inch off the top. My shave was also done when I was out cold. This hyst thing is so weird. I am also a very private person, especially about the "private zones", but I soon realized that nothing is "sacred" in the hospital....the staff did things so matter of fact that it became no big deal. Just grin and bear it....it will be over and the nurses see it everyday and don't think a thing of it....When a new male dr. examined me ( I have been going to the same female gyn for years) I covered my face with the sheet.....I know pretty lame, but I was mortified.

Thanks everyone

I sat here and bawled reading through these. I really appreciate that there are others out there in the same boat. But i am really freaking out now. I am in constant pain and on pain killers all day every day. I am so wound up and surgery is still 2 1/2 months away - i don't know if i can cope and go through with it. I guess if i wasn't such a private person it wouldn't be so bad. I even said to my dh last night that i thought the only reason i had to have a full shave was because the specialist had a fettish!!! I guess I have to take a few deep breaths and calm down. The problem is every time i think about it i keep crying!! Anyway, thanks everyone - it is nice to know there is support out there.

By the way - i don't think it is lame to cover your face with a sheet - I wish I had thought of that!!!

A Brazillian????

s Bless your heart. It always embarrasses me, too. You know what I do? I just start talking about anything. My kids, the weather, anything at all, to the tech shaving me. They do this all the time so it is nothing to them. I mean, NOTHING. It always gets my mind off what they are doing and I feel better about it. But if ducking under the sheet makes you feel better, do it!! I'm sorry this is so hard for you.

I'm also sorry about the pain. :*( More s!!

A Brazillian????

Hi

I had a LAVH and was completely shaved as part of my pre-op prep. I think I was more nervous about that than the surgery. But it ended up not being so bad. My nurse was a sweet elderly lady and she kept patting me on the shoulder and was very nice. I also had to have an enema and iodine douche, so by the time we were done with those, the shaving was a piece of cake! I'm extremely shy, but like Chris5 said, these nurses do this all the time and it seemed like no big deal. I wish I wouldn't have been so worried about it, because it really was okay. I'm sure afterwards that you'll be saying the same thing!

Good luck to you, and please try not to worry!
