Nicotine gum

I'm a smoker too, I've never even tried to quit and am due for my surgery November 4. In the past I didn't crave a smoke until after I left the hospital and then started back up like I never stopped. My friend is a nurse and an ex-smoker and she suggested the gum. It allows you to control your cravings and gives your mouth something to do. You have to think about the whole chewing process because you have to do it a specific way, so you're not thinking about smoking. Originally the gum only came in one nasty flavor, but now there are several flavors to choose from.
I have also requested that all my friends and family members who smoke wash their hands, use breath freshner and disguise the smell of smoke on their bodies before coming around me. This is the method I am going to try, I'll let you know how it goes.

Nicotine patch

Hi everyone,
I'm planning on quitting at my surgery too. I haven't decided between the patch or the gum, but, I"m planning on doing it! I have a really good oppurtunity in that I'll be away from from my children for three weeks, (I felt so guilty the last time I tried to quit for being such a witch) and both my parents are exsmokers so they totally understand the withdrawal crabbies....anyway I'm trying to see it as a good chance to quit for good this time without traumatizing my kids!
