Hi there,

I had my surgery (abdominal hysterectomy) 5 weeks ago, and very happy with my decisiion. I also had a lot of pain and bleeding (from fibroids). I feel great and more energetic than I've felt in years. About work, my doctor said 6 - 8 weeks off, so I have a disability plan that allowed for the 8 weeks. A lot of gals here have gone back to work after 4 weeks, but I'd say 6 is more the norm. Your doctor wil let you know how long he/she wants you to be out of work.

Good luck to you,

Lisa

Hi, welcome to Hystersisters. You will find lots of support and info here.

Your dr will be best to advise you on when you can return to work, the norm seems to be from 6 - 8 weeks. Depending on the type of surgery , it could be a bit sooner or even longer.

My dr told me that taking hrt should help prevent osteoporosis. Talk to your dr about your concerns.

Here is a link to some good pre op articles. You can find a lot of good info there:

Would you please add your surgery date to your profile so that you'll be included in that day's best wishes?

some encouraging news

my mom had a hyst. about 40 years ago--tah,bso, for endo and adhesions. She is careful to take calcium supplements and do a lot of walking ( a couple miles a day) and light weight workouts (light because she's 80 now). Her last bone mass test revealed that she has "the bones of a 40 year old". Her gyn told her not to bother getting scans anymore, her bones were in such good shape!

hyst./bso is not a direct path to osteoporosis--just be vigilant about self-care.
