How Long?

How long was it before those of you who had the large incision were able to have your first BM? I'm taking the Colace and eating things that usually make me go. I've felt like I had to go a few times, but I sit there waiting (unable to push),to just have the urge pass. Sorry if this is TMI, but at what point do I need to go back in?

How Long?

I had my TAH on 11/30, came home on 12/3. I started taking Colace in the hospital nad when I got home I started eating prunes. I was 6 days post op before I had my first BM. A little painful at first because I had the urge to push. I am pretty regular now keeping up with the Colace and prunes. I hpe this helps. I've seen on this board women saying it took anywhere from 3 to 7 days before they could go.

If there is one thing i have learned, it is that:
"Water" is my new best friend!!!
i have been drinking 6-8 glasses a day, and it seems to keep everything moving...

How Long?

I had my TAH/BSO on a Thursday morning and finally went on Sunday night. I ate plenty of salads, prunes, and other roughage to help me. I understand the waiting and the urge to push. Hope you're successful soon.

How Long?

Char,
I just got back from the doctors office. I've been having some sharp pains in my left side where they took the ovary. My doctor said it's just the stitches pulling and healing. He told me to take my Darvocet and get some Metamucil. He said it's the best thing to take to make me regular. I've only been going every couple days instead of everyday. He said if I take that it's better because then I'll go everyday and it will be easier for me. He also said it will make me thirst so I'll drink more water. Drinking that 64 oz of water is really important! I went to Target and got some pills. We'll see what happens.. Call your doctors office and ask them.
