Bringing RX???? + Don't forget....

I had my TVH on 7/24...more on that when I am up to it. Just wanted to share a couple of helpful tidbits with the Ladies in Waiting. First of all do get some Gas-X, etc. You will need it!!! I thought I was having a heart attack, severe chest pains and the nurse said "gas pains". They are nothing to fool with!! I thought since I had a TVH I wouldn't need stretchy pants to wear home...WRONG. Even with a TVH I had a swollen tummy just like after having a baby. Bottom line...bring comfy and big clothes to wear home.

MOST IMPORTANTLY....I found this out the hard way. My dr. and the nurse at pre-op hospital appointment said I could bring my prescription Migraine medicine with me to the hospital (I get migraines once or twice a month). Didn't think I would need it, but took it just in case. The day after surgery they removed the catheter and packing (catches oozing and bleeding in vagina) and needless to say, I wasn't feeling too swift. I start to get a sickening headache...call nurse to ask if I can take migraine Rx, after about the third call a nurse finally comes and says it is not on "standing orders" that I can take migraine meds. I tell her dr. said it was ok...no can do...they have to call the dr to confirm...then after that finally happens they have to get a Rx from the hospital pharmacy!!! They said patients aren't allowed to take their own medicine!!! It was in the original package with the dr's name on it, the pharmacy it came from, etc. (not like it was a loose, lone pill in a pill box). It took so long to get the medicine that before it arrived I had to call the nurse to get me to the bathroom. I was on all fours throwing up with the I.V. pole attached. I never had a chance to tell my dr. about all of this, but I am making a point of it at my 4 week post-op check. THE POINT OF ALL OF THIS IS TO MAKE SURE IT IS WRITTEN IN STONE IF YOU HAVE OTHER MEDS THAT YOU MUST TAKE OR MIGHT NEED WHILE IN THE HOSPITAL!!!

Good Luck Everyone!!!!

Bringing RX???? + Don't forget....

Leilah,
Thanks for the information. Be sure to discuss with your GYN what daily meds you need to take and also any extras you want to have on had. It's good to inform them in advance and have the knowledge. Your knowledge is power in this case.

Own Meds.

Leilah,

Sorry you had such a hard time with your own Meds. I was also told to bring my own meds with me. I take Blood pressure meds.

I was very lucky and it was written in my orders to take as needed. I did not want to bring my 90 day supply for each of my three meds in, so I went to the Pharmacy and asked them for smaller bottles and they were very happy to make up new bottles for me---FREE!!!

So I quess the message is the same as yours.....Make sure it is written in your orders---remind you DR to do so.
