Pre-Surgery Questions

I have a few questions for my sister-girls about presurgery tests and a bunch of other things too.

1.Did anyone have a CA-125 blood test? Did you have to wait until after your period? What does it do? I have heard it isn't accurate.

2. Did anyone have a barium enema B4 pre-op appt?

I have to have both of these done before my pre-op appt, but I have my period so I am certainly not having the enema done until it is over and I was told but a number of people to wait on the CA-125.

3. Did anyone see a urologist B4 the surgery? Did you have one present in the OR? My doc says one must be there and depending on the barium, colon doc may have to be there too.
Anyone hear of this?

4. What happens after the hysto. I still ovulate, what happens to the egg? Do I still have the hormonal flucuations? will I still eat chocolate and ice cream and get breast tenderness and water weight gain like I am going to get a period?

The only thing I can help you with is about the urologist. I had one present at my TAH to insert a tube to my one good kidney. My GYN wanted to be sure she would see it and not nik it. She also had one of her partners to assist, because of possible problems with the multiple fibroids and having a vertical incision. I gave full permission, because I'd rather be safe than sorry. I know my situation is different from yours, but no one acted like it was unusual to have others present. I hope this helps. Good luck and think positive thoughts. It helped me and at 4 weeks post-op I'm doing great.
