Pre Surgery Diet Recommendations?

I remember all TOO well the "potty issues" I had after my c-sections. I want to avoid that as much as possible. I was wondering if there was a "week before diet" I could follow? I'm just looking to make this as easy on my tummy as possible... .thanks for suggestions!

Pre Surgery Diet Recommendations?

I didn't worry about it the whole week before. But the day before, although I was not restricted until after midnight and had no bowel prep, I kept it pretty light.

Pre Surgery Diet Recommendations?

I just ate normally the week before my surgery and didn't have any problems post-op. My only restrictions the day before were "nothing after midnight".

Since you've had issues before, maybe you should let your dr know and get suggestions from him/her.

Avoiding heavy red meats and such should help you. I do well with soups and salads ( lots of fiber rich foods ). Remember to drink plenty of liquids

Best wishes.

Pre Surgery Diet Recommendations?

Hi Wontmissit. My specialist recommended a no meat diet the week before and plenty of clear fluids and green vegetables rather than starchy ones. He also suggested I consume the protein diet shakes at the same time so that I got all the nutrition I needed and didn't go into surgery depleted in any way. All the best with the pre-op diet and the surgery.

Cheers

Pre Surgery Diet Recommendations?

My dcotor prescribed a stool softener. Perhaps your doctor might okay the stool softener with laxative, which would give you added help.

I think your tummy health depends a lot on your reaction to the pain meds. I tried eating light, with lots of fiber and water the week beforehand but I became very constipated from the vicodin they sent home with me for the pain. I was able to quit taking it three days after surgery and substitute ibuprofin, so that helped. In addition to the stool softener and the beloved prunes, lots of walking around the house and lots of water eventually made things right.

Pre Surgery Diet Recommendations?

I ate normally until the day before my surgery. My doctor said to eat lite the day before. salads and soups. And nothing to eat after midnight. I did not have to do a bowel prep either.

Pre Surgery Diet Recommendations?

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check with my Doc. I know it's the Percocet that does it ... pretty much ALL pain meds do it. I have an average level of pain tolerance so I know I'll take the Percocet for at least 4-5 days after I'm home. I also know to take the Peri-Colace. They actually gave it to me in the hospital but did not tell me to continue once I was home ... I'll continue to take it at home this time around!

Good luck to everybody!

Pre Surgery Diet Recommendations?

I had no instructions on the week before surgery, except clear liquids from non to midnight the day before surgery. And nothing the day of surgery. That is it.

I did eat lightly the week before, and didn't eat much meat. (Since my gall bladder is out, I have a hard time with meats anyway. I am on iron supplements already.) I did have Gas-X on hand so I would have it immediately following surgery. many ladies had a stool softener on hand or in use before surgery. I did have a bowel prep, yuck but necessary. I did not need a stool softener, I can drink coffee and have the same effect. (Only needed that 3 times in the first week, not since.)

So everybody is different. i would address any past issues with your doctor, and see what is suggested.

PS. I did have bowel issues after both of my C-sections, but it did not repeat after my hyster. So it does not mean you will have issues either, just might.
