Back from my pre-op at the castle

Well, my anxiety level is somewhere between here and the moon right about now. But I guess that's normal, eh?

I presented myself at the hospital to day at 12:30 for all my pre-op "stuff." First I went to admitting where they took all my information and fed it into the computer. Then I was instructed to go sit in a waiting room down the hall and wait to be called. I wanted about 40 minutes and was called to the lab for my blood work. I have terrible veins...experts have trouble finding my teeny weeny rolly veins...this girl was not an expert. I'm not kidding when I say that she dug, and dug and dug but eventually managed to get some blood. You should see the bruise! Then it was back to the waiting room for the nurse to call me. The meeting with the nurse was really quick and very informative. I was told to do a shave and to take an "oral fleet" the day before the surgery.

So now it begins.

Back from my pre-op at the castle

Hi Laura,
Glad you got your pre-op overwith. They do it a bit different up there than down here in NS. I didn't have blood work that day but I did meet with the anethesiologist for a few minutes. He asked about any lung or breathing problems etc. And it wasn't even the anethesiologist that I had at surgery either.
And then of course I got my little bag of "goodies" for the night before as you did.
Sorry you had a rough time with your bloodwork.....there is a real knack to taking blood I think, and some people have it and some don't. I think they feel as bad though when they are not able to get the vein in the first couple attempts.
I am lucky in that I have great veins...very dark and very raised..which came in mighty handy for chemo I can tell you. But I did see other people who had a terrible time with the nurses trying to get a needle in their hand. I always hated the look of my hands because of my veins, but I am glad now that they are as they are.
So now its just a bit more waiting for you Laura. Hopefully the days will go by quickly for you!!
Wishing you all the best with your surgery!
Hugs!!
Maria

Dear Laura, one more hurdle over Soon, you'll be at the castle door, not that you are counting

I'm so sorry the technician had such a hard time drawing blood. I have beautiful veins that show very clearly against my almost translucid skin. Technicians are so happy when they see them.... except... they are rolling veins and they hide the minute they realize the needle is getting close Know all about those awful bruises
