Too tired for surgery?

Hello,
I've also been reading and finding hope here as I've tried to get my doctor to pay attention to my bleeding! I talked with my husband's doctor (country doctor type - very funny) and he told me, in his experience, it's really hard to get a gynecologist excited about bleeding. LOL.

Well, he noticed and two weeks ago exactly he did a D&C, which stopped the bleeding for four hours, then wham, as bad as ever. So I'm scheduled for next Tues., 11/13.

I'm read for this, but I've been bleeding nearly without cessation for four months and my blood count is very hard to keep up enough for me to have enough energy to stay awake more than five hours. (It's a fibroid tumor complicating this, apparently.)

Has anyone else entered surgery needing transfusions and feeling so weak and sickly? Does this complicate recovery? I just don't want to be so worried over problems due to the severe anemia, and the doctor has said he believes in avoiding transfusions whenever possible, which makes sense. Still, each day I lose a little ground.

Any thoughts?
AND THANKS FOR BEING HERE, I'm sure you all know how much you mean to those of us who never expected to go through this and definitely don't want to go through it alone!!
Pam

Too tired for surgery?

my first surgery for a fibroid was an emergency one done vaginally because it was on a stalk and had escaped. (yikes!) My blood count was about a 3, I was confined to my bed, (the nurse let me get up to go to the bathroom and I promptly fainted). They put ... hmmmm 2 pints maybe 3 of blood in me prior to surgery I can't remember, I think I got an additional pint during surgery. I left the hospital feeling like a totally new person the next day.

One of my other surgeries I had a 1/4 tank as my DR likes to say. For personal reasons I tend to freak out over blood transfusions even though they have litterally saved my life. My DR opted to use a recycler. Recovery was a little slower, for me and I was not out of bed much for a few weeks. I can't say that was due intotal to my blood count, but the bottom line is yep, been there with a low count and still had surgery.
