8 days and getting more nervous

I am due for surgery on may 20th and as the day draws near I am getting more and more nervous. I am panicking about everything from what I'm gonna do with my kids to how I'm gonna handle the pain afterwards. My niece is coming to stay with me afterwards and my husband will be here for awhile but they can't make the pain go away. I am hoping and praying it's not too bad but I don't know. I had my pre-op appt with the GYN and she said that since I already take Norco 10's for my back that she don't know if she will be able to manage my pain. Just looking for encouragement I guess. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Re: 8 days and getting more nervous

Try to think positively. There will be SOME pain, but I'm pretty sure it has to be less than what you've going through now. Your husband and niece can't take your pain away, but they can make things easier for you so you're less stressed; and when you're less stressed you're able to deal with the pain easier.

The more stressed I am, the harder it is for me to deal with my pain. It all sort of just piles on and feels worse and worse.

You can do this. You have to believe that you will be better on the other side of the surgery.

Get rest, drink water, and try to visualize your pain (I know it sound stupid, but it helps some people).... as a balloon.... and let it go...

We are here for you! We know some of what you're going through

Re: 8 days and getting more nervous

(((Kim)))

I was very worried about post-op pain after my TVH but to my surprise, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. Oddly enough, it felt like menstrual cramps. I didn't even use my PCA pump in the hospital and I didn't need my pain med prescription at home.

Obviously, you're experience will be your own but I hope and pray you have a similar one.

Hang in there!
