More Pre-Op Discussion.....

GREAT thread going gfrom 2438 !!

I wanted to start a new one! I just had my pre-op yesterday - NO bowel prep mentioned!!! YA HOOOOO. Do they ever try to spring it on you when you do the hospital pre-op? Hope not! My doctor was also very patient with all me questions. He was so calm though - I guess he has gone through it several times - I was just bouncing off the walls! I can't think straight any more and I'm making stupid mistakes at work - need my brain back!

Question - All I know at this time is that I will be having a TAH. How do you know if you need the bladder sling and all that other stuff you sisters are talking about? I didn't have an ultrasound - is that why? My uterous is now just below my belly button and off the the left quite a ways - doctor says he'll check everything when he's in there..... Wonder what's in store for me.

More Pre-Op Discussion.....

Hi there! I just had my pre-op a few days ago and was loaded with lots of questions myself. My DR was very patient with me and I was thankful. I told him that I was not so worried about the surgery itself as I was having a reaction to antibiotics. He said that he will watch me like a hawk for the first signs of a reaction. At least if I do have a reaction, I will be in a hospital where I can get treatment ASAP!

One of my concerns too was about my bladder. He said that most of them fall into a natural place, but he is going to do a bladder tack with me. I must have had a brain freeze, because I didn't ask him what exactly that is, so I am still in the dark. On the other hand, I really don't care, I just want Aunt Flo and her evil twin step sisters "Pain & Agony" gone!

My last question about hormones or not was answered with great care. He feels that since I am already experiencing hot flashes and night sweats that I should go on them ASAP. He is going to give me a shot as soon as I get out of surgery and then just as I am going to be released I will be started on the Vivelle Dot patch.

I'm so glad to have all my questions (Ithink) and now I can concentrate on getting all the things I need to get done around the house before I leave for the castle.

OOOOPS, I did it again, rambling on and on! But that is the best thing about this board, thanks Hyster Sisters!

I too had a bladder tack (no sling) because when my uterus was removed, according to my doctor, my bladder prolaspse almost fixed it self. I had a total lap hsyt and recovery from both procedures has not been too difficult. I have had very little pain but I do tire easily. Good luck to you.

More Pre-Op Discussion.....

My pre-op is the 13th of this month. I am going to ask about this bladder thing also. I really am anxious about all of this. But, we can do it. It really is the anticipation. I go in the 20th. The operation is scheduled for noon. I wonder when I will have to stop eating. Boy it sure is good to be able to talk about this with someone else going through it.
