First Post-Op Check

I have my first post-op check today. I am 2 weeks and 2 days out. A little nervous. I am wondering if the pathology report will be back yet and I am anxious to see what it showed.

Had my surgery (endometrial cancer) on June 24th. Just had my 2 week check up. My cancer was stage 1b and a grade2...the biopsy was a grade 1 so it was upgraded after the radical hyst davinci surgery. I am feeling great and my oncologist and the tumor board decided that no chemo or radiation will be needed. I will have to return every 3 months for 2 years and every 6 months for the following 3 years. He also said I would be having a total of 7 CT scans over the next 5 years. He told me that it would take 1000 CT scans to equal the amount of radiation given to a cancer patient that was in need of that treatment. He did do a pelvic (no speculum) and said the vaginal cuff still needed some healing, so take it easy for a few more weeks.

Re: First Post-Op Check

Well, the doctor said no cancer which was great news. Did have a good bit of endometriosis. No exam which was great. I was very afraid of that. Waiting 4 more weeks, then will get that done.

Re: First Post-Op Check

Had my first post-op exam just 1 week after surgery. Oncologist didn't schedule another exam until 3 months out! Wondering if I should insist on being examined sooner, even if nothing is really worrying me? How will I know if everything is healing properly?

Re: First Post-Op Check

That does seem a little strange. I have never heard of that. I think I would insist on a 6 week exam even if for nothing more than peace of mind.

Had my post op exam 2 weeks after surgery and will not be seen for 3 months, just like you. I feel okay with this, there's nothing to really check but our stitches. I'm going to be sure and call if I have any doubts or questions.

Re: First Post-Op Check

Thanks julieccard and oceana. I'll be sure to call my Dr. if something seems amiss. Sometimes it's hard to know what's "normal" and what should be checked into. I'm grateful for all of the info I've found on this site!

Re: First Post-Op Check

Wow! Learning that some doctors do seem to schedule it that way, I wish my doctor would! I am not really looking forward to the pelvic exam at 6 weeks! LOL! Lucky!!!
