Large fibroid hasn't shrunk much post UFE

I'm feeling a bit frustated at the moment. I had my 12month post UFE review and my uterus is still about 20 week size. I've had resolution of most symptoms but it is the size that is an issue. I'm having an ultrasound on the 23rd April to confirm size. I was wanting to have a myo to remove the remnant dead mass, but all the surgeons have told me that due to size and location it would likely end in hyster as they don't think they can restore the uterus to a functional form.

I don't like being 20 week size and would like to get rid of the mass. Especially frustrating when I see workmates who have just given birth and are back to their original size and I'm still carrying around this large mass. Whilst hyster would remove the mass, I'm concerned about the potential after effects and having problems that I don't currently have. I can't seem to find much info on what happens in the longterm to large fibroids that don't shrink. I've been told they either calcify or rot and that surgery will be more difficult if the fibroid calcifies.

Would really like to hear from anyone that knows where I can find out information about what happens to large dead fibroids in the longterm and anyone that has been in a similar situation and what you experience and decisions have been.

Mine was 24 week size and continuing to grow. It had also gone cystic and was in what the doctor called red degeneration. It was dying and then growing continually. I had to go on a 2 month course of Lupron Depot to shrink the mass before hyst. Had an abdominal hyst Sept 14, 2012 cervix taken but ovaries left. Recovery was great. Nice not to have the pain and pressure and my bladder problems have resolved. So nice not to be a bleeder. I put off having this done for 4 years and in hind sight I should have just had it done. Large uterine fibroids are very uncomfortable. Have the hyst.....after recovery it is such a feeling of freedom and is really not all that bad to go through. PS I was absolutely terrified going into the op.
