Terrified of the OR!

Hi,
My surgery date is Sept. 27 at 8:30am.
I have had several surgeries in the past, but I am scared to death. I have this feeling when they roll me into the OR I will faint or throw up. Just the thoughts of it make me break out in a sweat.
If anyone has the same or similar feelings I would love to hear from you. I am having a TAH/BSO. I know I need it and want to feel better, but I'm just SCARED!

Terrified of the OR!

Faint you say? I am the queen of feeling faint! I am terrified it will happen again. The nurses were so nice when it happened before the laparoscopy! I said , I think it is nerves, I am sorry but I am going to pass out...they just giggled and layed me down ton the bed...told me it happens to a lot of people! And then they sent the anesthesiaologist in with happy drugs! I never felt better!
We all have our little quirks, and they seem to understand! It is rather more common than many of us think!
Don't feel embarassed,a nd don't forget to tell them how frightened you are, and ask for help to calm down. That is why they are there.
Lots of love and hugs....we are in the same boat, but somehow we are going to keep that sucker from sinking!
God Bless

I can relate

I sure can relate to what you are talking about. Not about passing out, but getting my nerves worked up so much that I think that I was going to vomit all over the place. But that is what they are there for and they deal with it all the time! Just let them know what you are feeling and they will ease you. Things are going to be great for you and we look forward to hearing your story as soon as you feel better. Take care.

Terrified of the OR!

Not to worry...let them know immediately how you feel and they will help you appropriately. Even if something did happen, what better place could there be?? Furthermore, what we hear from nurses is that they have seen it all before!!

Take a deep breath and remember that, for most of us, the time is the hardest!

scared

When I had my Lap, they gave me a valumn to relax me, it knocked me out. I slept and never seen the Operating room. When I had my hyst a couple of months later, they did not give me one, I remember being taken in there. I remember the room being terrible scary, more so than a regular surgery room. I have been in them before. BUT as soon as I scooted over onto the bed in there, they knocked me out with-in 3-5 seconds so I did not have to endure it.
