Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 7/7: Scared! Absolutely scared!

I was terrified, but I got a meditation cd and listened to it one night and immediately became exctied about the surgery (Naperstek on amazon). I got involved in preparing the house and researching different issues: fallopian tubes, ovaries and constipation. I am on the other side and despite the fact that my pain was not controlled in the hospital and I had a difficult time.... I am recovering nicely (went in Wed. am, checked out Thurs.noon and feel very good today, Friday. TAH)

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 7/7: Scared! Absolutely scared!

I bought a binder belt and my dr said I could wear it if I wanted, but he did not recommend them. I put it on today and wore it for a while and I think that if you have a lot of pain it could help you getting to and from the toilet when you are at home, but if you can avoid wearing them it is probably better since you are working the muscles without thhe belt and that will promote healing. I got one on sale and so it was only $15 I think. I am glad I bought it, but I probably will not use it.

TAH: total abdominal hysterectomy. "Total" means that both the uterus and the cervix are removed. Abdominal means the removal is through one long abdominal incision, either vertical or horizontal ("bikini cut").

BSO: bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Removal of both sets (hence, "bilateral") of ovaries (oophores) and Fallopian tubes.
